I had my server on a windows8 desktop, but I have migrated the server to Linux and I can’t seem to get the hang of scanning my files into the library. Is there documentation on doing this? Thx!
It should be no different from triggering a library scan from within Plex running on Windows.
You might experience that Linux has a more strict approach when it comes to file permissions which can get in the way if you’re e.g. not properly mounting your drive.
I’m not exactly sure what kind of problem you’re experiencing (e.g. no automatic scan vs. files not being recognized, files being ignored, bad naming, mismatches…).
The Linux Tips from the tips & tricks section are always a good starting point if you run into some general issue. The same goes for the basic naming schema.
What I am having issues with is scanning for content. I try to set the libraries up but when I select them for scanning nothing happens and it goes right to prompt again. I also note that when I try and add a USB attached ssd it only lets me get the top level folder, I can’t dig down into them any further. For instance my music is in /media/marisag/MyDrive/Music but I can’t select that for scanning.
Check out the Linux Tips link from above. That sounds exactly like the kind of mounting/permission issue I was referring in my post.
ok looking at it now…
Nope. I even tried copying the folder tree onto the main HD and I still have the issues where it doesn’t scan and doesn’t go down beyond the first level of the folder tree…
fixed it - it was indeed a permissions issue, the mount point had to be set world readable to access it. Now scanning works perfect… Thanks for the suggestions!
