Scanning library takes hours just for a couple of movies/shows

Please capture the logs while it’s stuck here. I will deep dive into them.

I know right where it’s at in that process.

If you can make a ZIP file of the Plug-in Support/Caches and Plug-in Support/Data directories , I will examine those files.

Alright. It has finished the ones on the screenshot, but it’s still scanning some others.
Here’s Caches and Data in a zip.

Caches Data.zip (663.6 KB)

Thanks. I will dig into these and report back as soon done.

Your caches & data files are pristine. There is nothing compromised there.

I would like you to confirm your settings are as mine are.
If they are not, please make them match.

First, each of the Agents stacking in Settings - Server - Agents

I use Plex Movie as my primary Agent for the movie library section ( EDIT the section - Advanced)

Even though these settings looked like mine I went all in and reinstalled PMS for an all stock experience. I even deleted the tautulli docker. Looks like your settings are the stock settings. So I just double checked everything with your screenshot add gave it a go.
Sadly it’s all the same if not worse. 19/22 movies didn’t get metadata after a long time of scanning.
What is PMS trying to tell me here?

Edit: Correction, most of the movies got SOME sort of metadata. Some got the cast, some the plot, some trailers and 3 even got posters. But that’s it, looks totally random to me.

Data Caches.zip (604.2 KB)

There is something seriously wrong with that installation / DSM itself / the internet service.

I am going to ask even more basic info. I apologize as I do not mean to insult.

  1. Is this in a VM?
  2. What is the current DSM version installed?

That’s fine, I really appreciate your help. Yeah since nothing until now worked out I already thought on something different then PMS.
But my setup didn’t change much in the early past. My 718+ is running PMS directly (no VM) with the official 64-bit version and is equipped with the latest DSM version, everything is up to date.
Almost two weeks ago I got myself an upgrade on my internet speed (same ISP) and with that a new router (before: ISP to modem to AVM 7590 / now: ISP to AVM 6591). Since I’m no rookie on network management I made sure, that everything is running like before. Which worked out, besides PMS of course.

Ok. Since I know it’s safe to take off the training wheels

  1. Sign out of Plex in the web browser (Upper right)
  2. Close that window
  3. Open fresh to the Syno
  4. Stop Plex
  5. Open the Plex share
  6. Rename Library to Library.keep
  7. Start the server
  8. Open http://IP.Addr.Of.Syno:32400/web
  9. Perform a new setup SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS
    a. Give it a friendly name of “TEST-SERVER” to avoid collision with your default.
    b. Create a movie or tv section (with all the advanced features turned off) for your smallest media grouping
  10. Complete the setup with everything at DEFAULTS
  11. Allow to come to completion.
  12. Evaluate / report

Just to be sure: on step 9 I get prompted to log in. Am I supposed to log in there or is there a button that I didn’t see to continue without logging in?

@reap

Yes, this is precisely what should happen.

What’s happening at this point is the establishment of a secure connection between the unsecure web browser and the unsecure new installation which is ‘blessed’ by Plex.tv

Okay here we are again, same thing.
Out of curiosity I tried setting up Kodi and Emby. Both scanned/scraped within seconds/minutes and correct. Did this to make sure no connection to TMD/TVDB/IMDb etc. is blocked or a dns address can’t resolve.
Now I just need the unrivaled Plex UI and usability back. :slightly_smiling_face:

Edit: I will try to set up a PMS on a completely different device tomorrow. Maybe this will help clearing things up.

I don’t know what’s going on with your setup.

I’m willing to make alternate arrangements and resolve it.

If it’s really not possible for you to run Plex on your machines , I will figure it out.

So I did some troubleshooting today. I installed PMS on my Laptop and on a VM on the Synology.
Result:
Laptop/Win10 - works fine, just as intended, scanned everything in less then a minute
VM/Win10 on Synology - exactly same behavior like the native Synology application
So there is something wrong with my Synology to Plex/TMDb/IMDb/etc connection. One step after another…

  1. Do you use the Synology Firewall?
  2. Does your synology network configuration forward everything to your modem/router which connects to the internet?
  1. No.
  2. Yes. Setup is Router -> Switch -> Synology (via BOND/LACP). Tested Laptop also went through the switch though.

After another google-session I found a topic in this board where someone else had the same problem and fixed it with disabling IPv6 on his Synology device.
Sadly this didn’t work out for.

I have the same problem here and no idea what to do.
I tried the caches and data thing with no effect, I uninstalled plex media server and installed it again no effect.

I’m running the Synology ds416play with the newest DSM and the newest PMS.

Like reap I got myself an upgrade on my internet speed and with that a new router (before AVM 6590 / now AVM 6660).

I really have no clue how to fix the PMS, it’s driving me nuts.

Before PMS got new metadata really fast and editing movies worked like a charm, now it takes like two minutes to load a new movie poster after saving.

I would be happy about the answer to get everything back to wonderful.

When you compare the two modems (IP addresses), what changed?

  1. Gateway address?
  2. How DNS is resolved?
  3. Firewall in the modem/router?
  4. Address of the modem on your LAN ?

I have the same problem. (newest beta of Plex, Synology DS 716+II with newest firmware)
Metadata catching for new added movies takes forever.
After it completes, the artwork (cover and background) is missing.
But the cast and plot details are there.

Let me ask:

  1. Which version was previously installed?
  2. Does using public clear the problem?
  3. Did any part of this installation originate on Windows?
