Scheduled Tasks randomly deletes items

Server Version#: 1.32.5.7328 mac
Player Version#: 1.74.1.3913 mac

Since the last upgrade of the server and client, items in my library are getting deleted at random when running Scheduled Tasks, it seems to be completely random, these items are normally accessible when running Scheduled Tasks and are no different than any other unaffected file, but are being deleted and I don’t understand why.

Some of the deleted content gets added back to the library during the auto scan, after I do the scan manually, everything can be added back to the library, but all the metadata needs to be reacquired, including the intro and credits marks I think, and all the posters and data I had previously selected and modified all get reset and I need to modify them again, which is a pain in the ass.

It didn’t delete my files, but moved the items out of the library. And they still get randomly deleted after I rescan them into the library. I need some help, not sure if it’s a bug or not.

Settings - Server - Library - Empty trash automatically after every scan

DON’T enable that if

  • your media files are stored outside of the server machine
  • your hard drives are spun down when idle

Ok, I’ll try that, but I’ve been using Plex for about 6 months now and never had this problem before. I used Rclone to mount the net drive via webdav as a local file, then added it to Plex, with the server and file on the same mac.

I unchecked Empty trash automatically after every scan, but after performing a Scheduled Tasks scan it still considered many normally accessible files as unavailable files and the delete icon appeared, and after I manually performed a scan of the library the items went back to normal, so it was Scheduled Tasks scanning performed incorrectly regarded some accessible files as unavailable files, or did not scan these files normally, resulting in a misjudgment that these files are unavailable, but in fact these files are normally accessible, and these files can be scanned by manual scanning, can you guys please check if it’s the cause of Plex.

Disable the scheduled scans.
The issue is caused by your media storage being slow. Most likely, you let the hard drives spin down their platters after a while of inactivity. Which is quite likely when the server starts its nightly maintenance cycle.
Waking up hard drives can be very slow. The server may not be patient enough and assumes the files to be deleted.

Thanks, after my testing and observation, the problem I had should have nothing to do with Plex, it was due to the instability caused by the recent changes in the netdrive service, after updating the service and related settings it’s already back to normal. (they are not local files, they are netdrive files mounted locally. )
