Many new releases feature: Screen dimmer kicks in after 2 minutes then blackens entirely after 5 minutes.
Please stop it. :) If you insist on building this into new releases then make it configurable and not hard coded. Allow the user to put in a number of minutes before this kicks in with a ZERO being to NEVER kick in!
This was a horrible feature when implemented on the xBox One (even when it worked correct, which it didn't). Most modern consoles and/or TV's have features like this already built in and can throttle back power to boot. Just dimming or blanking the screen doesn't do much for power and isn't needed on the majority of TV anymore either. This was a plasma issue and even then not all plasma TVs had those issues. Mostly early TVs. Regardless...
Please keep in mind not all ideas are good for all users and simple decisions like this should be configurable or able to be turned off. And I'm not whining just to whine about this. If you have people living in your household with visual impairments then you would know how confusing features like this can be. Even a slightly dimmed screen can appear "off" and the person fumbles with the remote to turn things back on.
I could go into further detail but it's not needed. Just don't assume new features are good for everyone. Make things like this configurable and able to be disabled or changed. Not that it matters much but I doubt many people would want the screen dimmer to kick in at only 2 minutes.
But just for notes: I have a 75" Samsung with xBox One attached that is on 24/7 and all types of dimming or power saving features are off intentional due to visual impairments of a member of the house. So the last thing I want or need is any software installed that will dim the screen without me being able to turn this feature off!!!
The screen dimmer is there only as plasma TV protection. You're correct that the problem doesn't affect all TVs. Yet, can you imagine how sharp and seething a customer's feedback would be if we burned the Plex logo into their TV? Brimstone even.
I appreciate that you kept a pleasant tone to your message. We launch features and wait for feedback. We appreciate constructive feedback the most. Most of the time extra exclamation points and ALL CAPS come off angry and/or ranting but I can definitely tell that's not your intention.
I hear that for you:
two minutes is too short to transition to a dimmed state.
disabling the screensaver is possible because you don't risk burn-in and your TV is setup to dim itself.
features which change the customer experience should present the customer with controls.
I was so glad when this was removed from the Xbox One app, seeing these updates I'm fearing it will come back again without the configuration. I'm surprised after all the out cry and issues on the Xbox One that this was even added to the other applications without some type of configuration.
My opinion is similar to above, go ahead and leave it in, even default it off, but please give us a way to turn it off (especially in case of problems).

This is good feedback. Did I miss anything?
mseeley,
Yes that sums it up.
Would would be ideal for probably everyone is a configuration similar to:
Minutes before Screen Dimmer kicks In: 2
Minutes before Screen Goes Black: 5
(set to 0 to disable feature)
Or of course a checkbox above the setting:
Enable Screen Saver?
But you get the idea. In both cases the user could configure the settings that work best for them and everyone should be covered that way!
Concerning your comment "We launch features and wait for feedback. We appreciate constructive feedback the most."
I obviously have no input on this except to make my voice known in the forums (which I'm sure you know already) :)
But sometimes it's better to solicit feedback first before implementation.
