Hi.
I will be straight up and tell you that I don’t own an OLED TV, however if I did, I would be concerned.
When playing music in the Android TV Plex app, the screen display is always static, and therefore could certainly cause Burn-In to occur on an OLED TV.
This is the case on both the Nvidia Shield 2019 Pro, and on a 2020 model Sony Bravia TV.
PMP on my HTPC has a constant changing display whilst playing music, and so I presume was a consideration when developing that app.
Seconding this. I DO have an oled tv and I’m definitely concerned about burn in. I just picked up a Shield 2019 Pro and discovered that, unlike casting from my phone, the display for playing music remains static. This seems like an oversight and an incredibly easy fix.
For the time being I’m manually throwing the device into its Chromecast screensaver mode for music but I’d prefer to not have to do this.
I’m gonna keep bumping this for a while in the hope that a Plex bod sees it and responds, but if I don’t get a bite in a week or so, I’ll start tagging Plex bods into the thread.
This surely has to be a fairly high priority problem as it can cause damage!
the amount of bumps for not even owning an OLED…most TVs have an option to turn off just the display. I do this with my LG CX on ANY music streaming service, including Apple TV which goes to a pretty dynamic screensaver after a few minutes. track selection can be controlled via mobile app on both apple tv and nvidia shield.
I would much prefer plex implement multichannel FLAC support on shield pro, because this isn’t even really an issue when plex music support on this device is worse than other apps
Maybe somebody else could tag a plex developer, maybe they’re not aware. I got warned last time I did that, but then again, I tagged like a ton of plex devs and the CTO. Either way, this is a pretty serious issue for OLED and plasma TVs.
The way I see it, we have to play fair… Keep the topic going for while, and at some point it would simply be deemed ridiculous that a Plex bod hasn’t picked up on it. I guess we wait until it is considered unacceptable, and then tag someone…
