I am a new user of the Plex server. I am very happy with it generally. My less tech savvy family members can use it easily. That is a major boon. Needless to say, I love the price tag!
The only disappointment has been the search engine, and the way search results are presented. I have a lot of music, and I am used to the search tool in Foobar2000, which is superbly good and fast. When I tried searching in Plex I found the list was not exhaustive. There are files that were missed out. Also, the results were not presented in a very intuitive way. For example, if there are 35 albums for a searched artist, why use up display space showing multiple files from the same album? Only 3 or 4 albums were visible, and the rest had to be scrolled for. And, even by scrolling around I didn’t find the one I was looking for.
If the search engine would become more thorough, and presentation of search results would become smarter, I would be very likely to plunk down the $5/mo—just as thanks to the developers, even though I do not need any premium features.
