Player Version#: All players
<If providing server logs please do NOT turn on verbose logging, only debug logging should be enabled>

Searching local (italian) title version don’t work. I can find the film only if I specify the original title, generally the English one

Is this about content in your own or a shared library — or media from Discover / Plex‘ online media sources?

Also… have you considered upgrading your server? The version you’ve mentioned was released in Feb 2021… that’s ancient.

Only content in my own library. I’m afraid to update the server because I have thousands of hand-customized metadata (for example eliminating capital letters at the beginning of each word in the title) and I don’t want to lose it with the update.

I don’t remember if this was added during the last 2.5 years… the current releases support searching for both localized and original language titles.

The strange thing is that until recently I never had any problems with the search

There can be lots of incompatibilities when it comes to current players and 2.5 year old servers

Can you guarantee me that with the upgrade I will not lose anything of the database and customizations?

If I may add ?

Make an image backup of everything

  1. Stop PMS
  2. From the terminal command line (adjust paths as necessary)
sudo bash
cd /var/lib/plexmediaserver
tar cf /some/path/safe/PlexLibrary.tar ./Library
  1. When it finishes, you will have a perfect image/clone backup in a tarball form.

Upgrading over a 2.5 year old server will take some time but any local edits should persist if the fields are locked.

As I’m not Plex I cannot guarantee that nothing could go wrong. Personally with such a huge gap I would create a backup of the entire server data directory before doing the upgrade.

Ok, for now thank you all, I will try to update the server even if it runs on a terramaster nas from a few years ago and I’m not sure if an updated version is available. I’m also not familiar with Linux and the command line but I’ll get some help. I imagine the backup will be large considering my library is around 6Tb

Thanks, same advice from ChuckPA

Just came to post the same issue. Searching all sources, and all media types. It has been working fine up until now.

Another symptom is that discover titles are not loading:

Is seems that is the Plex online services go down, the local search stops working too. I cannot yet tell if the service is down, or if it is something else on my end. I will give it some time, and troubleshoot after work.

Btw I’m using Version 1.29.2.6364 on DSM 7, which for some reason is a downgrade from DSM 7. (I wouldn’t recommend upgrading to DSM 7, it is utter garbage and the support is snarky and unhelpful.)

If I may point-inquire please ?

Are we / I not helpful or snarky with DSM 7 support ?

Please be candid for if there is an issue, I would like to remedy it.

Regarding the search and the given “Gladiator” example, may I please have the server DEBUG logs ZIP file? I’m not able to recreate it.

Lastly, PMS 1.29.2.6364 is the only version we’ve been able to get Synology to accept in Package Center. Updating package center is not something I can discuss

Well I didn’t mean anyone specifically from here. Are you part of the DSM/Synology support? If so no offense, I just haven’t have good experiences on the Synology forums, while landing on some specific threads from Google searches. I didn’t even want to bother posting there regarding the issues that arised after upgrading, after seeing how others get responded to.

The Plex Discover service seems to be back, but the search still isn’t working, so I guess that rules out that theory. I have several local movies with “Gladiator” in the title, that are not showing up.

I am seeing numerous failed API calls in the console and network tabs for dev tools, however these seem to be some kind of poll and maybe not related to the search. The event calls are the queries to the API to search:

Here are some of the most recent logs, hopefully there’s no API keys in there. I’ve trimmed it down quite a bit for just the last hour or so. If I search for the “search” keyword, it brings us to the the APIs calls that see be be completed.
Plex Media Server.log (271.3 KB)

com.plexapp.system.log doesn’t seem to have anything useful. Would any of these other logs be useful?

I just realized you asked for the whole zip. Is it safe to share? You wouldn’t steer me wrong.
– MODERATOR REMOVED – Logs ZIP (to be extra safe)

But the manual install works right? I’m trying that now.

  1. A screenshot of the console debug console (network) tab doesn’t help me without the Plex/web DEBUG logs (Settings - Plex Web - ENABLE DEBUG – Recreate – then capture the text from that same page)

  2. The other screenshot you providing is a bit misleading but, given there is a dead server on your account, It looks like it’s trying to probe it (“Plex Server” has not been seen in 2 years) and getting the errors. I can remove that for you.

  3. Posting now and will start looking at the entire ZIP…

Thanks :+1:

Upgrading to “Version 1.32.6.7557” fixed it. It must have been broken for longer than I had realized. :flushed:

Thanks for the help, I wouldn’t have thought to try that until MUCH later.

HEHE… I was just looking at your logs and preparing to post.

Intro detection was failing ALL over the place – which it’s not done in a LONG time.

You all good now ?
Kick all the tires ?
