I’m running PMS for Linux 1.5.3580 (April 2017), with Plex Pass and using Premium music library. I’m having issues searching for a specific music Tracks from PMS and Android (didn’t check any other devices).
From PlexWeb (server) and Android using the “Magnifying Glass” Search feature for:
1.) “What’s the Frequency, Kenneth?” the search does not return the desired track, and the only track that appears for “What’s” is “What’s Going On” by Marvin Gaye.
2.) “Whats the Frequency, Kenneth?” (NOTE apostrophe removed) then the search returns the desired track “/music/R.E.M_/Monster/01 What’s The Frequency, Kenneth”
3.) “I’ll be Waiting” the search does not return the desired track
4.) “Ill be Waiting” (NOTE apostrophe removed) the search does not return the desired track
5.) “be Waiting” (NOTE entire phrase removed) the search returns the desired track “/music/ADELE/21/08 I’ll Be Waiting”
6.) “I Can’t Go For That” the search returns the desired track “I Can’t Go For That (No Can Do)”
7.) “I Cant Go For That” (NOTE apostrophe removed) the search does not return the desired track. Which is different from the first examples after removing the apostrophe or complete phrase if you’re paying attention.
The metadata and the file names for all of the above all include the apostrophe.
It appears the apostrophe is causing search issues for tracks (I also checked Ain’t, Don’t, I’d, I’m, to name a few) and maybe albums, artists and movies. Difficult for me to evaluate since I only have ~3200 tracks, ~400 albums, ~250 artists and ~200 movies (~1/16th of the data I’m experiencing with tracks).
I get a whole different set of results if I search PlexWeb from my music library / Custom Filter / Tracks / Track Title / Begins With / “What’s” and click Apply then I get:
What’s the World Coming to
What’s Your Name
What’s Going On
What’s The Frequency Kenneth
To add a third wrinkle if I do a NEMO (windows file explorer) search in the /music/ folder for “What’s” then I get the same four tracks as the custom filter search above, but they both are missing /music/10,000 Maniacs/MTV Unplugged/07 - What’s the Matter Here? But if I do “Magnifying Glass” or / Custom Filter / Tracks / Track Title / Contains / “matter” Search then I get “music/10,000 Maniacs/MTV Unplugged/07 - What’s the Matter Here?”
There’s no irony in the track “What’s the Matter Here?” (yes I used an apostrophe) !
