Search function not working with system keyboard

I recently updated the Plex app on my fire tv and even though interface looks good the search function doesn’t work at all. It hangs. Has anyone else faced this issue and what is the solution

Plex do you have any updates on this or planning to fix the issue that many are facing?

I don’t have a Fire TV myself but asked a few others and they cannot reproduce. I know there were various issues with search but they mentioned those should have been resolved.

Can we get the fire TV logs and the server logs so I can make a report

How would I get the log for the Plex app from fire tv? Not sure we can… as you’ll see on the Plex forum there are several posts about the new app not functioning properly. I have had to delete the app and side loaded an older version (before the new update)

Instructions are in the link in the comment…

I see one of the bugs is actually the search button - if I change it to “Use System Keyboard” that’s when it crashes and the search function doesn’t work. Can this be sorted?

As @BigWheel requested, recreate the issue, grab the logs and upload them here so he can take a look and share with the devs to review.

I’m looking at the download log url but when I type that into a browser it doesn’t load or download anything. Page fails to load

you have to add /logging at the end. and you may wan to turn off your Brave browser protections. but not sure.

Yes I added the logging at the end and added http:// at the beginning tried on different devices and none load up the log

I’m not sure about Brave but in chrome you may have to allow it to access local devices. some info here about how it affects web app. Important note about the Plex Web app - Local Network Access

Tried everything to get the log but it doesn’t work even with all securities off. It’s no wonder why so many people is leaving Plex to jelly fin or Emby. Plex was once upon a time a brilliant platform but now all Plex is thinking about is hiking the prices of membership and making the experience very poor. Who actually authorises these releases? Do they not test it first with users and get customer feedbacks? I had to resort to uninstalling the new app and then side load an older version.

Open a cmd window or terminal and type ping 10.14.0.2 does it return anything?

Don’t normally see 10.14.x.x on a private network, did you setup a custom subnet? Or running a vpn on the fire device?

No not set anything and I am not going to uninstall the old version just to redownload the “new” version to waste my time troubleshooting and to be honest I doubt anyone would be bothered to do all this when it’s clear that the actual new update of the Plex app on fire tv is absolute pants! So many people (check on the forum pages) are complaining about the same issues. 1) laggy 2) playback constantly buffering 3) search function not working and then many more. All I want to know is Plex going to look into this and fix with a major update to fix these issues.

They can’t help without logs since they can’t recreate the issue you are experiencing. Seems like your fire device is on a different subnet or isolated from your main network for some reason. Ive seen plenty of posts, but it seems no one wants to provide logs…not sure how they can be expected to fix something without knowing what’s broken.

Best of luck side-loading the old app.

Not sure why but now the log has downloaded (maybe cos I had my von turned on)
log0.txt (63.6 KB)

When you say it hangs in the first post is there a spinner or just nothing happens after you start typing something in? Do you only have your Media Servers enabled for search results?

I have my media server enabled and my mates one. There is a few issues, search function when I click on it and I change it to the systems keyboard it no longer allows me to search for anything, it hangs. If I revert to the Plex keyboard instead it is slow. On top of that media playback is super slow

I have a similar issue with my Fire TV Plex app with the latest update. It now takes 3-5 minutes to load a movie or a TV show. The spinner goes on for a long time, then it loads and continues spinning for at least a minute, then it finally loads. When I finish an episode and start another it goes through the same process of buffering before it opens the next episode. I do not have that issue with my android app??

So just checked again, if I use the Plex native keyboard search function, I can search. But the moment I change the keyboard setting to the system (fire tv) keyboard function which has voice control, it doesn’t let me type nor use voice command. I can’t change the setting again I have to uninstall and reinstall again to get back to native keyboard
