Search on Samsung Smart TV displays a grey screen and freezes. Missing search icon and TV startup Plex issue

Server Version#: 1.15.2.793
Player Version#: 3.90.2

Recently, I’ve been having a few issues with the Plex player on my Samsung Smart TV. The biggest is that whenever I do a search and try to open one of the search results to go to the information screen to start playing the item, instead of displaying the item information along with the play button, etc., it opens a grey screen and becomes unresponsive. If I browse manually to the item in question and select it, it will open up the information screen and I can click the play button and the item will play without any problem.

Additionally, the search button has been missing from the home screen and in order to access the search feature (unless there’s a hot button on the remote or something) I first have to browse to either an item and enter the information screen, or I believe using the Browse All or More buttons to enter the list view which has a search icon that can be selected. Can we get the search button back?

And finally, it used to be that when I shut my TV off, when I turned it back on, Plex would load and return to the menu that was open previous to shutting the TV off. Now, it opens to the channel selection screen. Is there some change on the TV side? Or did that functionality get removed from the Plex client for Samsung? And if so, can we get it back?

It happens the same to me. Samsung 2016

I’m also getting this issue. Samsung TV. When I click on a search result, I get a blank screen and have to restart the app.

We have a fix for this in the next release.

When is next release? Will the app update automatic or do I need to do it manually

Next Plex Samsung release. It’ll be automatic if you have automatic updates on (check the App app in Samsung)

One more case here.
Tried removing, reinstalling, etc.

Samsung TV is not really clear when using the apps.
I understand to make it dumb-proof, but if you want to uninstall/reinstall/check last update, it’s really painful…

Thanks guys, waiting for the update.

Saw in another post something that solved my problem.
I was waiting for an update from Samsung and I would still be waiting forever…

The following post, solved my problem:

This may not work for you, but it did for me.
After upgrading to player 3.90.2 I also had the same problem as you. I looked through the pms settings and found my secure connection setting was set to ‘Required’ (Plex recommend it to be set to ‘Preferred’) after changing it to ‘Preferred’ and saving the settings all is now good. I also have to mention that up until this player version, I never had a problem with the secure connection setting being set as ‘Required’ But all good now anyway.

I went and checked and my setting is already “Preferred”… So that’s out. Darn.

Another thing I noticed that’s kind of new is that now the PMS crashes randomly. Sometimes I’ll be browsing on my TV and the connection times out… Come back to the PC and the server is no longer running. Wonder if mine needs a reinstall.

While we wait for the new app update to fix the search freeze issue, I found that if you instead use the letter search on the right side to jump to the letter your video falls under, it will load normally.

When’s the release out?

Plex doesn’t post release dates and in this case, Samsung has a role to play as well…

Stumbled across this thread while looking into this issue…I have exactly the same problem, can’t search across plex as the search icon only shows after entering a specific library, and when I do search within that library it crashes with only the background screen showing. This has made the Samsung TV app very awkward to use and seeing as the exo player used in the android TV app is garbage I am hoping for a fix soon

Is this happening with the latest client released about two days ago?

Hey, I apologize. My app didn’t auto update for some reason. I have forced the update now and the search is working :). It’s a shame that the search function is missing from the home screen and that it doesn’t search across servers. It is much better than it was when it was broken though and the app feels smoother in general…again my apologies and thank you for the update

The recent update fixed the search issue. I just noticed it was working again last night.
