How does a HP Z440 Gaming E5-1650 v3 3.5GHz 6-Cores 8GB DDR4 GTX 1060 6GB GDDR5 NEW 256GB SSD sound fo $630

I want to upgrade from my laptop, which can barely transcode 1 or 2 remote streams at once.

any other builds that are good for 8+ streams at once, please let me know.
Thanks

While this machine will be a definitive improvement over your current one,
https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Xeon+E5-1650+v3+%40+3.50GHz&id=2389
keep in mind that

  • the CPU model is almost 5years old, which means it is very power hungry (140W!)
  • it is hard to cool silently
  • it is a Xeon, which means it doesn’t have a QuickSync unit. So using hardware transcoding and HEVC video codec is still a no-go, if you don’t also add an additional graphics card which supports this codec.

So is the gtx 1060 installed not work with hevc codex? Wouldn’t the graphics card take care of the hardware transcoding? Or only certain codecs

Sorry, I must have missed that above. Too many acronyms in a row I guess
Yes, according to this, https://developer.nvidia.com/video-encode-decode-gpu-support-matrix
the GTX 1060 should be able to help here.
But it’s officially restricted to 2 concurrent transcoding sessions.
