Second music library not refreshing (5.1 FLAC files)

Good evening,

First off, I’m not sure if this is in the right section so pardon me if I am incorrect in this. I’ve been having difficulty with an additional music library not refreshing or processing files. So I have one standard Music library, just full of folders with MP3 files that does update fine and has been without issue. I have a second Music library for 5.1 FLAC files which has worked in the past but has as of late refused to display any new content. I’ve got at least five folders with FLAC files (named by [artist][album][track number] - [track name].flac with ID3 tags) which PLEX will show in a scan as being recognized but they aren’t being processed and are not showing up in the library.

I’ve tried deleting and re-adding the library (different name, same folder) and the issue persists. I haven’t found anything out of place with any of the files in any of the folders.

If you would like me to provide a log, please let me know which files to embed or attach to this post and I’ll gladly do so.

Thank you.

Edit this library,
Go to the ‘Add Folders’ tab
and verify that each folder path listed there is

  • valid
  • does exist
  • is not completely empty

Do also keep in mind that Plex wants a folder structure and that your file naming schema will only work if the files have otherwise immaculate embedded meta tags.

Thanks for your advice. Unfortunately, I don’t see anything weird with the naming conventions. I’ve attached a .txt file of the directory listing, which is only about two dozen albums. Things that aren’t showing up in Plex:

Any of the XTC albums.
Depeche Mode ‘Delta Machine’
King Crimson ‘Lizard’

The other thing that stands out to me is the Plex kept naming Depeche Mode ‘A Broken Frame’ as A_BROKEN_FRAME which was what the m3u playlist file (and the Meta-tags of the FLAC files) used to be called but I’ve since fixed the naming and it still insists on naming the album as such. Similarly, I had Depeche Mode’s ‘Playing the Angel’ incorrectly meta-tagged as Nine Inch Nails, which I’ve since fixed and done a ‘Refresh of all Metadata’ on the Library but it keeps showing up under Nine Inch Nails. Could Plex be holding onto previous information and not refreshing or watching changes in the Library?

Thank you.

Ah, so you already had the files in Plex and then you corrected their meta tags?

  1. make sure all files which belong into one particular album, have the exact same content in the ‘AlbumTitle’ and the ‘AlbumArtist’ meta tags.
The ‘TrackNumber’ meta tag should be populated too.

  2. Perform the Plex Dance with them.
(step 4 of the Dance can be omitted with music)

Thanks for explaining the AlbumTitle and AlbumArtist tags for Metatagging. It turns out that my real problem wasn’t with Plex itself but that I was using a reference in Plex to the original location of the DVD Albums (a 3tb MIrror set) but recently added a 5tb Mirror, which was the mounting point in Windows and where I had been placing files.

When I found that out I let out an audible groan, fixed the reference in Plex and it’s working again.
