Secure connection issue with apps

Hello,
I have experienced a secure connection problem when I select the secure connection to be preferred then Plex app on devices does not work but if I disable it then it works fine.
Can you someone provide guidance on how to resolve the issue? Not sure how this option is relevant when accessing internally since I have already disabled remote access.

If you don’t use remote access at all, then there is no point in keeping Secure Connections activated.

Keep in mind that the change is only effective after a restart of Plex Server.

Good point let me restart plex, and I also have plex cloud which does work on Plex app on Roku if I change secure to preferred. Let me restart and see.

Plex Cloud is a separate topic.
The whole ‘DNS rebinding’ complex doesn’t apply to Plex Cloud.

I have restarted the server but still same, maybe I’m not understanding the concept properly.

  • When connecting from https://app.plex.tv/desktop* with secure connection set to preferred I can connect to plex cloud no issues, but cannot access my local plex server. Is that because I have remote connection disabled?

When accessed internally HTTP://IPADDRESS:32400/ via web browser everything works.

  • When accessed from Roku I can only access plex cloud, cannot access local plex server.

It is problematic, to have both secure servers and insecure servers in the same account.
Secure = cloud
Insecure = local

Try the measures in my linked post and reactivate Secure connections in your local server.

I have an option to setup DNS forwarding domain > DNS will that work? If yes, then what should I put in domain and IP? I’m already using google dns servers

No, not ‘DNS forwarding domain’

If you already are using Google DNS,
then you only need to look out for ‘DNS rebinding protection’ and a list of domains which are exempt from it.

Don’t have rebinding option. Does this mean I need to keep a secure connection to disabled state to allow access to the local server via Roku app, even though plex app supports secure connection?

I hope not. I must admit that I have no experience with Rokus at all.

Did you perhaps not only disable ‘remote access’ on your local server
but did also sign it out of your plex account?
‘Signing out’ is not recommended. It will make it impossible for some client types to find the server.

No, I’m not signed out and only remote access is disabled.

Could you please do the following:
Enable debug log in the server (not ‘verbose’ plase!)
Shut down Plex server
wait 1 minute
start Plex server
wait 2 minutes
grab log files and attach them here
https://support.plex.tv/articles/200250417-plex-media-server-log-files/

Do any logs contain any security or private information, before I upload it to on this post?

The public IP of your plex server and your email address.

(Apart from that nothing - unless you did tick the checkbox ‘Allow Plex Media Server tokens in logs’.
But you should never do that.)

Looks like its working, after I did a shutdown of the server when enabling logs I went back into plex app in Roku and this time I got prompted if I want to allow insecure connection and I selected in Same Network option and everything is working now.

One last question, when I provide access to one of the cloud storage (google drive, one drive) for Plex cloud any security settings I need to check to make sure no one at Plex has access to the storage content not sure what privacy settings are even though I’m allowing access to all storage, not just single folder.

There is no feature in Plex server which allows a Plex employee to look at a user’s files.
If a developer would build such a feature, he’d be dismissed immediately.

Thank you OttoKerner for all your help.
