on DSM 6 Alternative Method 2 worked for me. ![]()
Got access again like before the password change, even without getting any email from the scheduled task. Just need to rearrange the order of my libraries in Plex web. That seems to be not stored in prefs
Thx for the info.
Reading this…
Use of the PlexData share is completely optional. It is a diagnostic and support mechanism. It has no active interaction with PMS itself. PMS is completely unaware of this mechanism and independent.
…was reassuring. I’m therefore assuming no serious damage was done. For now, I’ll just sit tight, wait for the Plex servers to cool down and try much of these solutions again tomorrow. ![]()
You need to reclaim your server, which requires it to communicate with hosts at plex.tv.
Those systems are slammed right now due to the number of password reset requests.
Because of this, you may not be able to claim your server right now.
If you want, simply stop Plex Media Server, wait a few hours for the Plex systems to stabilize, and try the claiming process again.
Here is another approach to claiming a server.
-
You’ve changed your password. So far so good.
-
Can you access your list of Authorized Devices?
If so, is the server listed? If it is, delete it. -
Stop Plex Media Server…
You’re going to edit Plex’s preferences.xml file. You can do this via SSH/CLI if you prefer.
-
Login to DSM with a userid that has Admin rights.
-
Using File Station, navigate to the Plex Data Folder.
-
Make a backup copy of preferences.xml. Copy (not move) it to a somewhere outside of the Plex data folder (your home directory, etc).
-
Using the Synology Text Editor, delete the following entries from preferences.xml:
Reference: Why am I locked out of Server Settings and how do I get in?
PlexOnlineHome="1"PlexOnlineMail="jane@example.com"PlexOnlineToken="RanDoMHexIDecIALtoKeNheRE"PlexOnlineUsername="ExampleUser"
-
In File Station, right click on preferences.xml and choose Properties. Make sure the file is still owned by user
plexand thatplexhas RW permissions. -
In Package Center, start Plex Media Server and give it a minute or two to fully start
The Plex Media Server is now in an unclaimed state. -
Point an incognito browser window at http://syno_ip_address:32400/web.
You should be able to login and claim your server.
If you cannot login, then wait awhile and try again. The hosts at Plex are slammed right now and may not be responding in the time expected by Plex Media Server.
You do not have to repeat the entire process. Just try to login to your server directly, using its IP address.
Deleted my account and made a new one with a new email and pw instead of doing the pw reset. Now I’m trying to set up 2FA but I’m not receiving the email address verification email no matter how many times I request it.
Hey, I just reset my password — and NOW PLEX CANNOT FIND MY SERVER!!!
I have rebooted my computer, and downloaded the latest version. But it still cannot find my served. I have a lifetime pass.
The email and other systems are slammed today. Based on other threads, it can take hours for the emails to make it through the system.
Suggest you wait a few hours and try again. Give the Plex systems time to stabilize.
Resetting your password places your server in an unclaimed state. You will need to re-claim it.
Claiming a server requires authentication with a host at plex.tv. Those hosts are slammed today. If the claiming process does not work (errors, timeouts, etc), wait a few hours before trying again. (wait on the load on the Plex servers to go down a bit).
If the server is still listed in Authorized Devices, delete it.
If you’re on the server itself, open a browser window to http://127.0.0.1:32400/web or http://localhost:32400/web.
If you’re on the same network as the server, go to http://server_ip_address:32400/web (ex: http://192.168.1.2:32400/web).
If you’re remote, you’ll need to set up a SSH tunnel to your server, so you can appear as a local client.
See the Opening the Plex Web App on a Device Other than the Server Itself section of the Plex Media Server Installation document.
Thanks, FordGuy61. I’ll wait a few hours and try it again.
Windows PLEX here:
Regarding Remote. When will apps and access remotely outside the home be up again?
Thanks for your response. But it generates more questions:
Is deleting my server from Authorized Devices something I should do IF waiting a couple of hours does not solve my problem? Or is it something I should go again and do anyway?
If I delete my server from Authorized Devices, how will I find it again and connect it back up. Or do I have to start from scratch and set up a new server?
The only way I have ever accessed my server is from my Firefox browser (and I’m on a Windows platform)?
When I click on http://127.0.0.1:32400/web, it still does not find my server.
When I click on http://localhost:32400/web, it prompts me to finish setup. Does this mean I have to set up my server all over again?
Remote access requires authentication at plex.tv.
It might work now, but will probably be iffy until things settle down from all the password resets.
I deleted my entire Plex setup on my Synology NAS, all my devices and my Plex account. What a shambles. I will be looking elsewhere for a solution to play my own media. Bye!
Deleting from authorized devices places your server in an unclaimed state. It does not delete any libraries, change any server settings, etc. You may have to re-pin libraries to your home page (I don’t remember).
You re-claim the server using a browser pointed at the server, i.e. localhost:32400/web, etc.
You should be able to skip the setup process. There is no need to create any libraries, since they already exist.
Note: You might be prompted to pick libraries to pin to your home page. This is OK, since the libraries already exist.
Thanks. Plex seems to have found my server now.
I will wait. Thank you
Surely the Plex servers have calmed a bit since this morning’s hysteria. I received the “Reset your password” email at my normal email account. I can log into the admin user on my server to be able to look at Account Settings. When I Edit Password, it says it will send an email. I must have tried this dozens of times. I am still waiting for the email back from Plex so that I can reset my password. How long do I need to wait? It’s already been at least 5-6 hours.
Follow-on to my last post. Now when I try Edit Password, it asks for new password, confirm new password (both say strong and they match); and then current password. When I put in what my current password was before today’s jolly rollercoaster ride, it says invalid password. Then when I click on Subscriptions, it says I need to reset my password. I put in my Admin setup email for my server, and it says you will receive an email. Still no email. Again, how long should I wait?
I also received this action required email and I log in with an email and password (not Google or Facebook). I am trying to change my password and its not letting me! I enter in my new password twice in the required fields (it says “strong” so I know its sufficient) and then enter my existing password and it says “invalid password”. wtf? help?..
I UNDERSTAND ALL PASSWORDS AND USER ACCOUNTS WAS STOLEN.
Take all passwords turn them into 256 bit encripted, and 256 bit long. this will provent decripting them.
would be keyed to system mac address and seral number.
passwords would change every 15 days users never see the change. useing a radom number genator, to provent a pattern wich will be surch for
try something like this as password
