Seeing double when playing some videos

Seeing double when playing some videos. Everything is updated. Video plays fine on the computer using plex server playback or any other media player on the pc.

It is not labeled 3D and I don’t have a 3D tv. Some have the scramble in the corner.

That is strange. Do you have more info on what kind of file it is? What the video is supposed to be of? Where you got it from? (camera? online? (no names if illegal))

I’d never seen this before (not that I am an experienced videographer). But it sure looks to me like a video with multiple video streams. Usually, 3D videos would have this, but since each video is of a different scene, I’m wondering if it’s an .mkv file with multiple video streams in it. That’s why I’d like to know more about the file and its source.

Very easy for me to duplicate the problem. It not only happens with videos on my server but also videos played through Plex Movies & Shows feature. One example I found is when playing SD video the title- King Arthur: The truth behind the legend, from the plex Movies & Shows feature on my android TV using plex. I even tried with a HD video on Movies & Shows and it still happens but corrects itself after about 30 seconds. It only seems to happen with videos on my server that are 480p and does not matter what extension the file is. I rarely play 480p unless they are hard to find documentaries. I’m going to try deleting the Plex app from my TV and reinstalling it. I did have a android TV plex update a few days ago and I don’t believe it happened before then.

After reinstalling plex I still had this issue. after uninstalling any tv updates, I still had this issue. After all this I restarted my tv and the issue disappeared. I still dont know what was causing the issue but it did look like two different video streams were running at the same time. Maybe the tv had two instances of a single program opened causing the issue. I’m not going to pretend to have the answer but if anyone with experience wants to try and guess please reply.

I wonder if it’s the TV itself thinking that the signal is a 3D video, so it changes its resolution. When this happens, go into the TV settings itself and see if there is a way to manually force regular 1080p resolution.

This isn’t anything I’ve heard of happening with Plex. I notice that your screenshot does not include the Plex UI. If you were to press a button to bring up the interface (whatever you have to do to bring it up), does it show up cleanly across the entire bottom of the screen? If so, then it’s Plex messing up the video. If the UI is non-visible or corrupted (part on one half, missing on the other) then it might be the TV cutting up the incoming video stream based on it thinking its a 3D signal.

What model/brand is the TV?

Edit: Another question, is does the TV support picture in picture? I’m flashing back to that scene in Back to the Future 2 in which the kid turns on multiple channels spread across the one screen.
