When watching a video remotely, I can see it buffers correctly. When I jump to a section wthin the buffer zone, and jump within the buffer zone, it still buffers. Or even if I just let it play within the buffer zone, the spinning circle comes up, and the video spits and sputters.
Is this normal expected behaviour?
You can see in the image below an example of how it is presumably buffered, but the spinning circle in the centre still comes up.
This is not the local playback buffer of the client, but the transcoder temp buffer on the server. Which means to jump within that, the transcoded data still need to travel from server to web browser. If you experience buffering there, the speed of the network connection between server and client is the limiting factor.
I recommend using “Plex for Desktop” instead of the Plex web app. Combined with a server version after 1.40.3 this (and its sibling “Plex HTPC”) allows for a greater local playback buffer.
