Since the last update I can’t use the voice command “xbox select”. Everytime I say “xbox select” it acts like I said “go back”. All other commands work flawlessly. I’ve gone through the Kinect microphone setup several times to no avail.
I checked online for people with the same issue or reference to it not working.
Was this ability removed or is it a bug?
The old Voice User Interface (VUI) is no longer supported on the Xbox One for new apps, which is why it’s not available in the new Plex app. We’re looking at future integration with Cortana but it won’t be like the old ‘Xbox Select’ system.
@Moussa, Please tell me when this will take affect? I am about to through my Xbox away and get a PS4, this was the only reason i got an XBOX, the app is baisically usless now. I am sorry, I don’t mean to rant, I have been a plexpass member for life for about 4 years now, and this new app is by far the worst update? It is so glitchy and uses 0 voice commands… Why not wait until the app was fully ready to go live? Is there anyway to get the old app back for the time being?
@Rickster128 I don’t have an ETA unfortunately, Cortana support for apps is still relatively young.
What the actual F?
I just got back from holiday to find that you have put out an update that has made my Xbox freaking useless.
How can you guys be this incompetent? It’s utterly ridiculous, everyone i know only uses there Xbox for media and only uses voice commands to control it and you are saying you willingly removed this functionality…? Idiots!
We’ll I am getting rid of my plex pass and will be encouraging everyone else to do the same.

Unfortunately the user stats don’t reflect this. Microsoft have killed off the Kinect and stopped building microphones into the Xbox One for a reason.

No, that’s not what I said. “The old Voice User Interface (VUI) is no longer supported on the Xbox One for new apps” We are looking at Cortana support but it won’t be anything like the old ‘Select this button’ voice system because that’s just not how Cortana works.
I’d like to see the voice control back - it’s so convenient to be able to say “xbox pause” instead of having to reach for the remote.
Thanks.

Geez people,
Get over yourselves already. First of all, the ONLY reason you bought a $300 GAMING system was for Plex? Give me a break, why not spend $30 on a Roku Express instead.
And to sit there and complain that everybody ONLY uses their Xbox for Plex and ONLY with voice commands, did it hurt falling out of the stupid tree?
You all need to get over yourselves. You are NOT entitled to Plex. You do NOT pay to use Plex. You CHOOSE to pay for a Plex Pass, which is NOT REQUIRED to simply play your media.
_“Plex Pass gives you exclusive access to awesome new features and apps. Record TV for free over the air, sync your media for offline enjoyment, rest easy with parental controls, and enjoy enhanced music, photo and video features—all of this and much more when you upgrade.” - plex.tv/features/plex-pass/ _
Post after post, all I see is forum posts WHINING about how “insert your chosen swear word” the new Xbox One app is. And, in the case of @Rickster128 you have been informed at least once already how the “Select” command is gone BECAUSE OF MICROSOFT. Get over it!
Why don’t you ALL stop acting like entitled little brats, stop your whining and BE THANKFUL you have Plex at all.
@Moussa Thank you for keeping us all updated on what’s going on with fixing the MINOR inconveniences the new Xbox One app is causing. I love the new UI. And, since I use a Xbox One Media Remote and play video games, you know, the things a Xbox One was actually designed for, voice commands in Plex are the LEAST of my concerns. As a side note, I know of at least two Xbox developers (myself included) and one UI developer who would love it if we were allowed to work on or fork the Xbox One app.

I don’t have a Kinect anymore so I can’t verify, but pausing should still work. If you have Cortana enabled you have to say “Hey Cortana, Pause” as having Cortana enabled disables the “Xbox” keyword. You can look online, but I believe being able to go back to the old voice commands is still valid (assuming this last update didn’t finally remove that completely). That will not bring back Xbox Select as that does not function with UWP apps. It’s dead. MS killed it, not Plex.
