September 16th update and Temporal Noise

Hello there,

I have posted twice on reddit about the recent update causing me a great deal of discomfort on all platforms and I am wondering if anybody else has noticed the addition of temporal noise to their viewing experience. I used to notice color banding when on the menu of my tv and now, it no longer is banding. This makes me think that Plex has added Temporal dithering to the graphics pipeline and I can no longer watch at a true bit depth. Any info would be greatly appreciated I am at a loss. I hope that this can be turned off because I really don’t like any other service then plex. I cannot find anything in the patch notes. If any plex employees see this, Please help. I can’t even look at the plex menu in any web browser.

Cheers

Not sure exactly what you mean, but there was a bug with background images where low quality images were being used. The banding you saw may have been from scaling up those low quality images. They fixed it to use better images. I’m not aware of any changes during playback, but there was an update to ffmpeg in 1.43.0 do if the video is being transcoded and looks different, it might be that. Provide details so the devs can look into it.
