An example series episode is an MKV file.
Stream 0: Codec: H264 - MPEG-4 AVC (part 10) avc1 (Video) 1920x1080
Stream 1: Codec: DTS Audio (dts)
Stream 2: Codec: BD PGS subtitles (bdpgs)
Automatic play of this results in transcoding and halts after 2 minutes of playing (the same goes for all the trailers that come with the series).
Setting it to 1080 HD transcoding (in the plex app on tvOs) makes it work again. So why is auto transcoding failing here for most of my series? Is this a bug in tvOS 16 (as it started after I upgraded tvOS).
See if the problem persists by downgrading to 1.28.0 (stable) or up to 1.29.1 (beta).
Take your time so as not to interrupt a db migration etc.
By auto transcoding I figure you mean the transcode that will inevitably get kicked off trying to play the PGS subs. Why is it failing? Without looking at your logs, you might have landed on a version of PMS stable that’s not ideal.
Transcoding happens because of the player settings. Regardless of subtitle settings. On tvOS 16 in the plex app I changed automatic to off and quality of local playback to maximum… Guess what?
No more issues with trailers provided by plex and movies and series play without issues.
