Series listing and Synology structure

Hi.

New user and didn’t know where to post.

I have TV series loaded under, unsurprisingly, TV series. However, some are missing on Plex yet are saved on my Synology.

For example, Michael Palin or Ross Kemp documentaries. Under Michael Palin for example, there should be a list of series such as Himalaya, or Pole to Pole. However, I can only see 10 episodes (which appear to be from one season), yet when I click on the title banner, another different series starts to play).

Is this something I’m doing wrong with my file structure?

Plex can be a bit picky with TV Shows… in particular when it comes to properly structuring them.

Based on what I could find on TheTVDb.com, they consider each of those documentaries series its own show. In line with Plex’ naming conventions, naming should be like this:

TV Shows <- the folder/share linked to your Plex library
  Himalaya with Michael Palin
    Season 01
Himalaya with Michael Palin - s01e01 - North by Northwest.ext
      Himalaya with Michael Palin - s01e02 - A Passage to India.ext
Himalaya with Michael Palin - s01e03.ext <- the episode title is not really required
      ...
Himalaya with Michael Palin - s01e06.ext

Pole to Pole with Michael Palin
    Season 01
Pole to Pole with Michael Palin - s01e01.ext
Pole to Pole with Michael Palin - s01e02.ext
Pole to Pole with Michael Palin - s01e03 - Mediterranean Maze.ext <- adding the episode title in the name does not hurt
      ...
Pole to Pole with Michael Palin - s01e08.ext

Where .ext is the file extension of your videos
For Plex to recognize the shows, don’t add additional folder levels (like grouping all Michael Palin documentaries in 1 main folder).

Hi.

Thanks for the reply. The file names are similar to what is above, but miss the “with Michael Palin”. So the ones I have might be “pole to pole E01”.

I will edit based upon your post and see if that helps

Have a look at the 1st link above and try to stick to that naming convention. If the files only contain the episode number (but no season), you’re lucky Plex is even recognizing/adding that file.

Will do. Just been looking at a YouTube when they talk about adding a period between words.

Fyi, the Palin stuff doesn’t really have seasons. They are kind of standalone

From the linked support article:

Miniseries

A miniseries is really handled just like a season-based show, you simply always use “Season 01” as the season.

I think ive got it!! working as I would like now

However, there is one series that doesnt load. Its called Ross Kemp Return to Afghanistan…at least that’s what it says on the credits of the programme.

However, it doesnt come up on the TVDB search, nor on my Plex (even though London 2012 highlights that I made, did!). Any ideas how I can “find” it/manaully edit?

The Show seems to be called Ross Kemp in Afghanistan (however “Ross Kemp Return To Afghanistan” should also be a valid/working Alias).

TV Shows
  Ross Kemp In Afghanistan
    Season 01
      Ross Kemp In Afghanistan - s01e01 - Royal Anglian.ext
      Ross Kemp In Afghanistan - s01e02 - Camp Bastion.ext
Ross Kemp In Afghanistan - s01e03 - Now Zad Base.ext
      Ross Kemp In Afghanistan - s01e04 - B Company.ext
Ross Kemp In Afghanistan - s01e05 - Hunt for Taliban.ext
    Season 02
Ross Kemp In Afghanistan - s02e01 - Return to Afghanistan.ext
Ross Kemp In Afghanistan - s02e02 - The Reality of War Here.ext
      Ross Kemp In Afghanistan - s02e03 - Major Contact.ext
      Ross Kemp In Afghanistan - s02e04 - 5 Scots.ext
      Ross Kemp In Afghanistan - s02e05 - Finale.ext

As usual… with .ext representing your file extensions and optional episode titles.
Could it be they’re marketing the 2nd season of that show as “Return to Afghanistan”?

Edit: just checked on Amazon… yes, the documentary is shipped in 2 boxes (“Ross Kemp in Afghanistan” and “Ross Kemp: Return to Afghanistan”) with TheTVDb.com considering it’s 1 show with 2 seasons, “Return to Afghanistan” being the 2nd season
