I’ve matched the series Harmontown a few times manually but after a couple of minutes the metadata disappears again.Version 1.9.2.4285, windows 10.
It looks like it happens when metadata is refreshed
Refresh metadata like this?
If so then you may have an .nfo file in the folder causing the show to revert to the .nfo configuration.
The NFO file may also cause a normal library update to revert back as well.

Only if you installed the nfo importer agents and if you enabled it under TheTVDB as a secondary agent as well.
@AgentDrTran
do this:
Go to Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheTVDB
In there, grab the line ‘Local Media Assets’ with your mouse and drag it downwards, so it ends up being at the bottom of the stack of active agents.
Repeat the same under
Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheMovieDatabase
+
Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - Plex Movie
+
Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - TheMovieDatabase
Then fetch the Plex XML info of one of this show’s episodes
Do also provide a screenshot of your agent configuration under
Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheTVDB
or list the order of the lines in there with a checkmark
Sorry for the late response @OttoKerner , I just realized that Plex Forums have a “save changes” button for notifications. There is no .nfo file, and just for clarity the show is “HarmonQuest”, not “Harmontown”. I moved local media assets to the bottom, matched the series, and the manuall refreshed metadat for the entire library. This unmatched the series again.

I dont’ know what you’ve heard, or what you’re trying to do over there, but this absolutely positively WON’T WORK!

That’s not even the worst of it. You have other structures, folders, files running amok in there. It can’t work - like it is now.
Another thing you should try to nail down is:
Harmontown
or
HarmonQuest <— I’m going with that one, for now
This is what you want:
A TV Show Library/
…HarmonQuest/
…Season 02/
…HarmonQuest - S02E04 - Into the Abyss.mkv
You may as well know - if you don’t start renaming your files and structuring them properly you are in for a world of hurt. I use FileBot. Link in my signature.
Your scanner log is all over the place, so you’ve been working on this thing while it’s in the library for what looks like a couple of weeks. You need a do-over big time:
FileBot (link in my signature) can handle the naming and structuring for you automatically or manually in seconds.
What FileBot can’t do is remove possible embedded metadata in the Title Field of MP4/M4V files. Plex will read this info and prefer it over a perfect file name/structure (you don’t have any of those yet), but you can combat that situation by moving Local Media Assets to the bottom of every agent list you can find. All tabs in TV Show and Movies here:
https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200241558-Agents
Just drag LMA to the bottom of the list and drop it. If you do have embedded metadata this will cure the issue, if you don’t it won’t matter. LMA will do what it has to from the bottom. These particular files are MKVs and are safe, but if you ever want to use MP4/M4V, heed the previous warning and solution.
Renaming/restructuring is best performed OUTSIDE the library and you’ll need to write a new bundle for the show so The Plex Dance® was invented:
The Plex Dance®:
- remove show/movie from library - the whole thing, every file, every folder
- update library
- empty trash
- clean bundles
https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200392106-Library-Actions <— update library, empty trash, clean bundles - bring names and structures into compliance/move LMA/etc
- replace corrected show/movie into library
- update library
All Steps. In Order. No Shortcuts.
If you name and structure as the example shows above and the whole show isn’t matched and populated immediately (well… in a short time)… you have more going on than a naming issue, but make no mistake - you have a naming issue.
You may as well know - if you don’t start renaming your files properly you are in for a world of hurt. I use FileBot. Link in my signature.
I’ve been using Plex for…6 years, now? 99% of my media files match find, and its’ OK when they don’t I just manually match them. I understand that the file names are not compatible with Plex and will require me to match them manually, I’ve done this many times before. The issue is that plex is throwing away the match data for this specific series. I have several film that don’t match Plex’s exact naming requirements, but work just fine - even after a metadata refresh.
I disagree that this is a naming issue, I know it’s not being matched - that’s not the problem. I’d like Plex to keep the manual match for this series as it does for other series even in the same Library.
Also, Season 2 matches just fine, for the record. It’s just season 1. This has happened for other shows and manually matching it has worked up until now.
Uh-huh…
Ok, well let’s clean up just one show, drop it in a new library and see what happens.
Remove HarmonQuest from the current library.
Update Library
Empty Trash
Clean Bundles
Create a perfect Show Structure as I have done above, fix 2 or 3 episodes and drop them into that new TV Show Library you just made.
If something other than an instant, fully populated match happened, attach a new set of log files.
I marked your answer as correct, as removing the show, clearing bundles/trash/refreshing, and then re-adding it worked. I didn’t change the filenames though - and Plex didn’t even need me to match it when I re-added it.
I fully agree with @JuiceWSA verdict.
And he is right when he’s predicting you to get bitten again and again by this issue.
Do yourself a favour and follow the naming recommendations. It is quick and easy to do if you use software which does all the renaming and folder creating for you.
It just don’t get any prettier than this - all pre-matched and renamed instantly BEFORE they go in a library with FileBot (link in my signature). When they look like this they work perfectly today, tomorrow and for ever. When they don’t look like this the user is never done ****ing with them:
Of the 10s of thousands of files in my Plexiverse - I have used Fix Match 5 or 6 times.
There’s just no need to Fix Match when FileBot has already matched them before they hit the library.
In the end - you’ll spend much more time fighting Plex over bad file names and structures than you EVER will just fixing them.
So I’m having a similar issue… I followed your instructions to a T, even renamed everything. It still was not matching correctly. I decided a fresh start, w/ a new library, adding each show individually would help the process. I added the first folder “30 Rock” as a test show to make sure it worked. It matched each season individually to different shows that aren’t remotely related… Any idea why it’s doing this? See the naming structure and logs below.Plex Media Server Logs_2018-08-30_11-15-24.zip (4.8 MB)
No, it won’t.
Point the library to the top folder, which contains all the different subfolders for each TV show.
