Series Naming Issues

I have a quick query.

I am new to Plex and really enjoy it but find that some TV Series have the wrong names against them.

For example MAS*H Season 7 has 26 episodes but Plex only names 25 of them as there is a 2 part episode that covers episodes 4 and 5 (Episode 4=Our Finest Hour Part 1 and Episode 5=Our Finest Hour Part 2).

On Plex it registers ‘Our Finest Hour’ as only 1 episode which throws the rest of the series out by 1 episode. Can someone tell me how to change this as there are definietly 26 episodes?

Thank you

Plex uses TheTVDB for all metadata of tv series.
Therefore your files must follow what is listed over there.

  1. Look up your show on TheTVDB
  2. Take the title as it is used on TheTVDB. If there is something in parentheses, take that too. If the title contains invalid characters (depends on your file system), like § : % *, simply leave them out.
  3. Check the naming and the folder structure of your show. Name the top folder of the show exactly after the title on TheTVDB. No abbreviations. No additional subfolders. No aliases. Add the (year) in parentheses when episode 1 of season 1 of this show was aired.
  4. Name the episode files according to the above linked naming guide. Use the same title as for the top folder. Show's Title - s01e01 - additional info.ext (’- additional info’ can be left out)
  5. After you corrected the naming and folder structure, perform the Plex Dance with all files for this show.

Thank you for this, but it is the source on TheTVDB that is incorrect as it only shows one episode ‘Our Finest Hour’ not that episode in 2-Parts.

Can this be changed?

No, this cannot be changed.
TheTVDB lists the episodes exactly how they were broadcast originally. That is a policy of theirs.

You could try to name your 2 files as a multi-part episode
https://support.plex.tv/articles/200265006-naming-multi-file-tv-show-episodes/

Or you can try to merge your 2 files into one (only works if the 2 files are identical in all technical format aspects):

(and adapt the episode numbers of the rest of the episodes)

Thank you but this still doesn’t solve the issue because now it misses out episode 5 completely.

Both Google and Wikipedia show MASH Season 7 Episodes 4 and 5 as ‘Our Finest Hour’ and then episode 6 as '“The Billfold Syndrome”, and the DVD has it in that order too.

Is there any way of getting in touch with TheTVDB?

I’m not trying to be difficult I’m just trying to match it with the information I have in front of me e.g. the DVD and Google and Wikipedia

TheTVDB is a community-driven effort. They have a user forum, but they also have very strict rules which they don’t change upon request of a few users.

You could try to use the ‘DVD order’. Maybe it works, maybe not.
Edit this tv show (at its top level, not at the ‘season’ or ‘episode’ level)
On the ‘Advanced’ tab, there is ‘Episode ordering’.
Set this to ‘DVD’
then ‘Refresh Metadata’ on the whole tv show.
