Series not found

Hi,
I just signed up as a member, and upgraded to be a paying member. My friend is also a member, and she found a serie that I want to watch, but when I search for it I can’t find it. What do I do wrong? She told me that they had difficulties when they sign up. I don’t understand why it’s gonna be so difficult to create and use and account. Can someone please give me some guidance so that I can watch my serie

What series?
From who’s server?

Which show is this about and from where are you trying to stream it?
The video on demand catalog is not available everywhere – this is depending on the license owner’s conditions / terms. Content can also be changing over time (new shows being added, previously available ones being removed).

Usually you can see what’s currently on plex via their homepage (e.g. https://watch.plex.tv).

As per nydave69’s question… the above applies to the video on demand scope… this won’t apply if you’re trying to watch media from the server of your friend.

See, this is maybe my problem. Maybe I don’t really understand plex. I don’t know any server. I just signed up
I want to see: The originals. Again :see_no_evil::sweat_smile:

All of our current streaming content is free. It does not require a paid subscription or a server. In any Plex player app they will be under Movies & Shows or Live TV. If they do not show on home screen click on MORE

We do not currently have the show “The Originals” available for streaming

But how come my friend could find it on her account then? I don’t think I understand this plex correctly

Some friend of hers that does have it is sharing their Plex Media Server her.

Or she is paying some one to access their Plex Media server which is against our terms of service and illegal in much of the world.

In general, Plex is typically used to manage local media (think BluRay or DVD ripped to MKV or MP4) and playback that media on various devices (either at home or remote). It’s like a personal Netflix. You can also freely share your media with others as well.

Plex also has partnership for some free streaming content to compliment that local media which is what @BigWheel showcased there for you above.

If your friend is seeing a show on their “Plex” that isn’t available via the free streaming services, then it’s either because they have it locally (a ripped DVD perhaps) or are connected to a friend\family setup who have ripped it.

This article about getting started with setting up a Plex server seems to cover things in detail pretty well about Plex itself and what’s involved in setting up a personal Plex Media Server: https://www.howtogeek.com/252261/how-to-set-up-plex-and-watch-your-movies-on-any-device/

Okay. Makes sense. But cab she then share it with me? And is it allowed? I don’t want to get in trouble… just want to see the originals

The short answer: Probably.

The long answer: Someone is running the Plex server she is watching The Originals from… whomever that is would need to share it with you. If they are charging for that access that’s a no-no.

Depending on your location it may be available on other streaming services: The Originals - streaming tv show online

Yeh, wel that’s super expensive in dk, so that’s why when she told me it was on plex I made the account thinking it was like Netflix  But I can understand it’s not that simpel… I guess I just have to pay on blockbuster - that’s the only way in Denmark to see it…

Ah. Gotcha.

You can ask her how SHE can see it on Plex… maybe someone in her family has Plex server setup and would be willing to share it with you too. That’d be okay.

You shouldn’t need a Plex paid membership for any of that so be sure to cancel your membership.
