Server 6260 Will Not Launch on 10.11.6 Mac

My MacPro 5,1 server running MacOS 10.11.6 attempted to update to 1.29.1.6260 last night. The install completed but failed to restart. I attempted to launch it this morning and it would not start, even the right click open didn’t launch. Reinstalling 6244 brought the server back into service. I see in the release notes that

(macOS) Plex Media Server now requires macOS 10.11 or newer to run.

My Mac meets those requirements but am not sure why it fails to launch with 6260 installed.

Suggestions?

I’m having the problem on two servers, one 10.11.6 and one 10.12.6
I see no obvious errors in the logs, it just begins to load the server program and then quits.

Same issue here on 10.11.6.
Had to revert to an older version.

I also have a crashdump when it happens. I haven’t tried to repair the database yet. If I get some time I’ll try that before upgrading and see how it goes.

Mine apparently tried to update itself to 6260 (unsure how, I’ve disabled automatic updates, although it still advertises updates to every user who opens the apps which is just asking for trouble) and is now crashing constantly. It’s interesting because something is going on in the background, because about 5 minutes after it crashes, it tries to startup again and, again, instantly crashes. After it crashes the process “Plex Plug-in [com.plexapp.system]” is still running so I’m assuming that’s what is causing it to try again.

This is all that’s in the log. Occasionally it will say at the very end something about killing com.plexapp.system (although it’s crashed so many times the only 5 logs I have available right now don’t mention that).

I’m on 10.12.6.

Also interesting that you were seeing a message about 10.11 being required because everything I can see on their download page and support site still says 10.9.

Downgrading to 6244 also fixed it for me. Just have to keep my users from accidentally upgrading the server now.

Thanks for the confirmation. Good to know it is not an isolated case. When I reinstalled 6244, I was greeted by the update option again. I chose skip this version with hopes the next version may address our issue. Maybe we will hear something official soon.

I’m in the same boat on Mac OS 10.12.6 on a old Mac Mini.
6244 works fine but 6260 just never launches,

All of those were INFO messages, not errors, just an fyi that it’s db migration going on.
If debugging is enabled, there is a

com.plexapp.system.log

but this sounds like a compiler issue. Has anyone checked their mac console log?

I am having the same problem on MacOS 10.11.16 when using the “Beta” Server update channel. Downgrading to the public release does work for me, but any solutions besides that?

Same problem. Updated my mac server this morning and now plex won’t launch. If it put the cursor over the icon in the menu bar it’s just beach balling.

My server just informed me of 6276 being available. After manually downloading a backup copy of 6244, I went ahead and installed 6276 via the server update mechanism. Install and restart went as expected. Back up and running and up to date.

Thanks to all involved keeping 10.11 a compatible platform.
