Server can see external drive but can't add media folders

Server Version#:14.04 64-Bit for Ubuntu

I’m new to UBUNTU but have the plex server running in windows for years with no issues. I installed UBUNTU and Plex Media Server without any issues. I can run the the server but it keeps on saying that there are no media files in the folders. The Media folders are in an external drive via USB and Plex can see the drive but nothing beyond that. I’ve already edited the MediaServer config file to put my account as plex user but the issue remains. Not sure if this is only related to permissions. Thanks in advance for the help.
