I am in a band and I record our rehersals and performances for later review by the band members.
I have a library with the band name, and it is setup like this:
Scanner: Plex Video Files
Agent: Personal Media
I record the videos on my gopro, edit the footage into a 1080p mp4 file and put in the library on the plex server.
The folders are arranged by year, so I have folders like 2021, 2022, 2023 etc. Under each “year” folder is each performance like:
20230101 - New Year’s
20230214 - Valentine’s day
etc… in each of those folders is at least one video, sometimes several… .all depends on what was recorded etc.
Now, here is the issue I have:
After putting a new file in a folder and scan it, most of the time it will recognize the new file I just uploaded as something else that was uploaded a long time ago!
When I inspect the video by looking at it’s info, I can see that it thinks there are 2 files there. one is the file from a long time ago that exists in a another folder, and one is the actual file I want to be displayed.
It usually shows the title and poster as the file from a long time ago, and clicking play will play the older video as well.
USUALLY, I have the option to “split” the multiple files apart, and then I can edit the title and poster to make it right.
Today it is showing the two files, but I can’t even split them.

The big question for me is: Why does this happen?
I thought that by using the “Personal Media Agent”, it would simply see the location and name of the file and that’s it… done… but it doesn’t…; It seems to be doing some sort of extra work to identify the file and for the life of me, I can’t figure out why…
Does anyone have ideas on how to fix this? It’s been a thorn in my side for years now and is driving me nuts.
Thanks,
Jim
