The last 2-3 versions of Plex, when I click the install button in the web interface, I get “installing”…and that’s all that happens. I thought this might be a temporary problem, but since it’s been persistent over the latest iterations I thought I’d ask if there’s a fix for this or if anyone else is experiencing it.
(Windows 10, x64).
There is a second way of updating Plex.
Just download the current installer.
Then go to the Windows Settings - System - Apps and deinstall the old version of Plex Media Server.
(all your existing libraries and metadata will not be touched by this)
then install the freshly downloaded version.
I know, I was looking for a solution for the ongoing problem. I’ve been using the workaround, but the problem persists.
I assume you already know that the installer may open up ‘behind’ the web browser window?

Do you have to uninstall?
I don’t and most times don’t even stop it before the update .
This is how I do it on win10 boxes, Synology and Drobo. That would probably total 50 updates!

This to do away with potentially interfering tasks still running which could stop the updater.
And there is no negative side effect if you do this on Windows.
(I hear it is different on some NAS platforms.)

Quite aware. There’s nothing in the background, can’t even see any install process. Quitting and restarting Plex only shows it as “installing”, still.
Maybe you could give the Microsoft FixIt! a try which deals with failing uninstalls and installs.

Use it to remove both the ‘Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable (x86)’ and Plex Server.
Then install PMS again. Maybe this changes something.
