Server just disappeared on Windows10 Pro

Server Version#: Have no way how to check now, but always kept the latest
Player Version#: Irrelevant

Out of nowhere it seems server just disappeared. Can’t find the files. Can’t start the server. PC reboot didn’t help. Was watching some shows one evening on Android TV and the other evening it simply could not connect. PC was not rebooted during that time. Checked Program Files and it’s not there anymore. Trying to install again, says that it’s already installed…

Any advice?

Just checked the install log and it says

[4464:2944][2021-09-09T20:57:09]e000: Error 0x80070666: Cannot install a product when a newer version is installed.

WTH? I just downloaded this installer 1.24.2.4973-2b1b51db9-x86

Same thing here - can’t find the server, despite reboots. Tried to manually install and it failed giving the message that:
Cannot install a product when a newer version is installed.

I have tried to install the most recent version:
1.24.2.4973-2b1b51db9
August 26, 2021

No Plex icon appears in the task bar, and this has maybe started since the last update a few nights ago, but I can’t be sure.

Perhaps this was a problem with the beta channel updates, if so, can you please let me know how to roll back these changes, this is pretty frustrating.

I’ll paste the log below from the installer that failed here:

Same thing here - server has just disappeared out of the blue.

I can’t reinstall plex sever as it says a version already exists.

I had the exact same issue across two servers. Couldn’t install the latest version due to the error about newer version, etc.

I fixed it by going to the Windows Apps and Features section (right click Start), select “Plex Media Server”, choose “Modify”, and then use “Repair”. I believe I had to reboot once after that for it to properly find the media, but since then both servers have been working fine.

Forgot this step, thanks @rodwhiteley for pointing it out. Do this when the ‘Repair’ process asks you to select a file:

“Download the latest server version installer, & when it asks for pms.exe, choose this file (you downloaded)”

Same exact issue… what happened with that last update?!

That did the trick. Thank you

Thanks questgod. Worked and didn’t lose any metadata

Woke up to the same issue - I’ll see if I can do the “repair” trick

Repair didn’t work - it tried to stop Plex, popped up a file browser looking for “pms.exe” (which is totally gone)… I hit cancel, result - “Setup Failed”… help?

Worked for me! thank you

I’ll give that a shot, thanks @rodwhiteley

Aaaaand, it looks like that worked @rodwhiteley - I still don’t have any Plex Media Server under my start menu, but it came up OK and will presumably be fine now.
