Recently I downloaded several movies using the server feature to my laptop in preparation for a trip. I didn’t finish downloading all of them before I left. Since returning, plex keeps trying to download one of them again and again even though I no longer want it on my laptop. I can’t cancel the download from the server. I figured I’d let it finish and then delete it, but it just keeps downloading.
How do I get it to stop? And why is there no way to change your mind once you do this? I think it’s possible to cancel downloads on mobile apps, but apparently not on the web app on a PC>
Plex will always try to finish a download job – so that’s kind of the expected behavior.
You can also delete/cancel a download job in the desktop app (Plex for Mac/Windows/Linux) – there’s no download feature in the web app (except as the admin you can download the plain file).
- Open the desktop app
- Go to
Downloads
if you haven’t pinned that section to the sidebar, look for it in theMoresection! - Hover over the download job and click the red
xat the right of the selection.
Well that’s odd . I don’t have the desktop app open - just the web app. And it is downloading as we speak - it just started up on its own. In fact, every time I go to the web app tab, it starts another download of the same movie.! I just went to that tab to see and it started another.

Ok… there’s some confusion.
There’s two concepts of “downloading” at game.
As the admin of your own server, you’ll find a Download File option on the videos in Plex Web. That’ll simply download the file using the browser’s native download mechanism.
That’s not the Plex download feature where a video is loaded in the Plex client for local streaming (e.g. while on a trip).

For the first… simply stop the download in your browser.
My screenshot as based on the second concept.
Yes I did stop the browser download but it repeated 4 times. Only thing I can think of is that the browser tab was “remembering” the exact URL where I requested the download … Pretty strange, but it seems to have stopped.
