When using the Plex app on my XBox one, my local Plex server shows offline. I’ve verified both are on same subnet (only subnet) and I can get to my Plex server from PC web browser as well as my Android app.
What are your security settings like on the Plex server and the XBOX One app? If you have secure connections required, change it to preferred or not required on the same network. See if that helps.

I don’t see any security settings on XBox but Plex server is set to preferred
And you’ve reviewed this FAQ and it doesn’t apply? (Including the link in that FAQ that leads to another Plex Server FAQ)

yes, I’ve gone through these articles and none seem to apply
Have you read this thread? Perhaps something in there can help troubleshoot the problem.

the only thing I’ve noticed out of this thread is that if I go to https://plex.tv/api/resources, the page opens and displays “Please Sign In”. I am signed into XBox live and into the app. I’ve also verified I am signed into the server.
Nevermind. I had to go to plex.tv and sign in first then check the https://plex.tv/api/resources and it looks the same from XBox as it does from my PC
Shouldn’t matter what device you’re one, if you are logged into your devices and plex.tv, then every device should be listed in the xml output. If the XBOX One Plex app is on that list, then communication between plex.tv and the devices doesn’t look to be the problem.
yeah, the xbox is listed in the api output
sorry, xbox is not listed
If the XBOX isn’t listed, then there’s a problem with it communicating to plex.tv. Check that thread again and see if there’s any info on how to get the XBOX talking to plex.tv.
Ok, so got it fixed. Had to do the following:
- On Plex Server - Settings > General > Update Channel - set to Plex Pass
- On Xbox Plex App - Sign into app and then hit the start button and go to Settings > Security and change “Fallback to insecure connections” to “Allow on same network as server”
- Sign out of app on Xbox
- Sign out of Plex Server
- Sign back into Plex Server
- Sign back into Xbox App
Hope this helps someone get to the answer quicker. How frustrating. lol
Changing the update channel shouldn’t do anything except give you Plex Pass versions to download instead of public releases.
Edit: It actually didn’t work until I also went in my Plex server and went to Settings > Server > Network > Secure Connections Disabled.
You might be right about the channel, but I left it at Plex Pass to be sure.
