Xbox one app no longer able to find server

Hi,
The other topic is marked as answered, so starting a new one. Is there a problem with the xbox one app now? My xbox one app is no longer able to find my server, whilst the android and samsung apps can. I updated the server to 0.9.14.5.1595 in case it is that but no joy. I suspect it is a Xbox Live issue. Can Plex Support have a look please.

Michael

This is happening to me as well.

ME too… Xbox one only. Other clients find library ok.

Try going to the settings in the Plex app on the Xbox, selecting Security, and making sure it’s set to “Allow on same network as server”.

Tried that. Still doesn’t see the server

So annoying. At this point I have no other option but to assume it just doesn’t work on XBox One. Rating it one star in the xB store and telling my friends to avoid

Having the same issue too.

I made the security setting change mentioned above (Allow on Same Network) and that didn’t change anything.

I was able to fix this by going to Settings->Account, where I noticed it had username/email as “unknown” so I signed out and then it started working and repopulated those fields with the correct information.

fotoden’s fix worked for me too. Found it was logged in as “unknown”. As soon as I signed out, it went to the Plex menu and was connected to the server.

Well done fotoden, that was it. All working again. I clicked sign out, waited few seconds, quit the app, restarted and it connected fine.

This is NOT fixed. I have tried signing out and then it automatically re-logs in on my Xbox one account and asks me to link via the four character code. The username shown on thr Plex account screen is my Xbox live username rather than my actual Plex account username which could be the problem. Fix it…

Experiencing the same problem. Went through all the guides I could but just won’t connect. I set both server and client to allow on same server security setting. I have a Synology Server. The Roku 3 I have has worked sold since day one for a year. The Xbox One app connected a couple times over the last week after restarting the app a few times but tonight it’s totally stuck on No Server Found. I do not have a problem with the settings. It always picks up my email and username properly inside the Xbox One app.

Thanks - that worked for me.

Guys,

sorry for my Wall of text but… this is ridiculous. I tried everything - e-v-e-r-y-thing to force my Xbox App to show the external subtitles during videos (i mean .srt -s, not embedded MKV’s). But this app simply dont wanna show it. I did everything well what I read in plex support guide to able to view the subs.

I run Plex Media server on my synology DS215j NAS (Plex App version is the latest on NAS: 0.9.12.19.1537-f38ac80). App is great anyway, realize the correct format and the language of the subtitle, media server shows at the movies detailed page that I have a correct language format of subtitle and based on the config, media server is actually selecting my preferred one (yes, I tried to force it manually to my choosen one, result is the same). I’m using locally copied .srt-s with the naming format what Plex guide suggests next to the video file on my NAS - but I tried to use it equally with the file name. Not worked.

If I leave the subtitle section as it is (to use the subtitle), Plex app on Xbox one simply shows an error that my media server is unavailable and can’t connect to the NAS. (I can browse the library, anyway and play the movies which doesn’t have external .srt). IF I disable the subtitle on my plex media server on the specified movie, voila Plex app immediately starts to play the video.

Configs at the media server:
Server/Agents/ >> Local Media asset is the top 1 at each section and sub-sections (Movies,TV-shows, etc)
Transcoder (i didn’t changed it 'cause my NAS is on my LAN where XO is located)
Languages: Automatically select (checked and unchecked, both I tried)
Languages> Prefer audio tracks in: Hungarian
Languages> Subtitle mode> Shown with foreign audio (If I select Always enabled, mean, forcing, doesn’t change anything, not working)
Languages> Prefer subtitle mode> Prefer Hungarian.

For example, I’m seeing a Hungarian sub srt option on Love Actually (ya’know it’s christmas time). System automatically detect it, and enabled it. If I leave as it is, XO app drops me an error, that can’t connect to nas.
If I’m disabling subtitle on the video detail to “none”, XO App play the video.

What I’m doing wrong, or the app is simply crappy ? Other devices are playing the subs well, just XO won’t.

Thanks! :frowning: :frowning:

This worked ONE time for me last nite but has since stopped working. Any method of logging out and logging into either the xbox one or the plex app it self does not resolve this issue. Android app works, Roku works, Xbox one does not.

If you check your Plex Media Server.log what happens?

I don’t believe the DS215 is able to transcode which is currently required for subtitles to show. I am guessing in the Plex Media Server log you will have an entry for This NAS is not powerful enough to transcode which unfortunately the Xbox Only sees that the server is not sending the data it want’s and times out.

Until Soft Subtitles (Non-transcoded) I don’t think there will be a way to display the subtitles for you in that setup without manually burning them in ahead of time.

Have you tried optimizing your Server’s database? Some users mentioned in another thread (And I had completely forgotten about it) that if it has been a long time since the last optimization the server can timeout when entering library/loading the server while waiting for the server to read the database.

I saw that, I will give it a try later… I do see now that this issue is noted in “Known Issues” for version 1.5. This “known issue” is a app breaking bug and it would be nice to see plex dev’s giving us an update.

If the server is timing out because the database is taking too long for the server the app has absolutely no way to see this. All the app can see is that the server isn’t responding to it.

The developers are still looking into the issue and the current thought is there might be a timeout that is too aggressive, but trying to find where it is at (And why an unoptimized database would even trigger that much of a difference) is tricky.

Optimize Database did not fix the issue for me. The status for this thread should not be set to “Answered”

NOTE: The Xbox is NOT within my LAN and I have a very stable network. Running a Watchguard Firewall with my DSL modem set to bridged mode (no double NAT). Firewall packet capture shows no issues. This is purely a software issue. This is not a “Killer” problem as I use a Samsung Smart TV and Roku (1st Gen) with Plex hat works, but I do pay a monthly fee for the “Privilege” of using the xbox app via Plex Pass. It would be nice to see an update from the Dev’s.
