Xbox cannot find servers

I have went through all the steps trying to get the Xbox to recognize the server but it will not.

  • Ensure you're running Plex Media Server version 0.9.11.1 or newer - check
  • Ensure that Plex Media Server is actually actively running - check
  • Sign in to Your Plex Account in your Plex Media Server - check
  • Verify that your Server is listed on your Devices page - it showed up on the page a month ago but has not since the latest upgrade
  • Make sure your Plex Media Server and console are on the same subnet - check
  • Disable any VPN on your computer or router - none enabled
  • Disable any proxies being used on your computer or router - none enabled

I would hope that there was some type of fix for this. Someone please help me. I am paying for a service that I cannot use I it is very frustrating.

I have even tried some of the other forum and manually specified port 32400. No luck.

Has anyone been able to get this working?

  • Verify that your Server is listed on your Devices page - it showed up on the page a month ago but has not since the latest upgrade

That is your issue.  The Plex app on the Xbox One can only find your server by looking it up from the Plex servers.  If your server isn't populating on the devices tab then there is no way for the Xbox One app to find the server.  (The same happens when Xbox live goes down or you lose internet connection, it will only work until you close the app and try and reopen it)

For me I use port 32401 for my server (This was only because my desktop was hosting before my built server so it got the 32401)

Then in side of my router's settings  I have port forwarding setup so that Both TCP/UDP are forwarded from 32401 to 32400 to my server's internal IP address. On my Router it looks similar to this:

Service Name         Port Range               Local IP                Local Port            Protocol

Server - Plex           32401                       192.168.1.250      32400                  Both

If you have everything forwarded correctly you can goto www.canyouseeme.com type in your external port and you should get a message similar to:

Success: I can see your service on xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx on port (32401)
Your ISP is not blocking port 32401

If you get a message such as:

Error: I could not see your service on xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx on port (32400)
Reason: Connection timed out

Something is blocking the connection between your server and the outside world.

My plex connection is as follows:

I am signed in

Server is mapped to port 32401

both are checked green.

On the plex.tv

I am signed in

server is mapped to 32401

both of these are green as well

I am however still unable to connect through the Xbox One

I got the following message from the url you provided

Success: I can see your service on xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx on port (32401)
Your ISP is not blocking port 32401

Any other suggestions. I have restarted everything multiple times and even reinstalled the Plex app on the Xbox One

Thanks in advance

Can you connect to your server on plex.tv when you're outside of your network?

No. I cannot I am getting a 401 not authorized error… My question is why do I have to connect outside when both the plex and xbox one are in my LAN. This does not make any sense. I’m on the same network why would the xbox have to go out to the Internet to connect to a device on the same network

No. I cannot I am getting a 401 not authorized error.. My question is why do I have to connect outside when both the plex and xbox one are in my LAN. This does not make any sense. I'm on the same network why would the xbox have to go out to the Internet to connect to a device on the same network

Because the Xbox One cannot do local discovery.  The only way for it to currently find your server is to get the server information from the plex.tv server.  So until the Plex team add in a manual connection or a way for local server discovery the only option is connect your server to plex.tv servers.

You're able to stream to from other devices on your home network?

J_McKee is correct. Currently we need to go to plex.tv to discover your servers - all streaming will occur on your LAN though.

If you can't access your server from outside your home then it sounds like an issue with your firewall/router. Could you try the steps here:

https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200289506

Let me know if that still doesn't work. You may also get help on this in the general forums, since not seeing your server outside of your home network, if you want more people to see your queries.

So guys after going back and applying your suggestions. I can hit my plex server from the outside but I have to enter it in as follows:

[WAN IP]:32400/web

This is the only way to connect to it.  I can view the site and log in. If I leave out the web I cannot connect.

So how does the Xbox find the server now. I am still having issues with it not being able to find the servers.

Servers are mapped and everything looks good from the outside. I can watch content after I login in. But the freaking Xbox will not find it.  I have reinstalled the app several times as well.

Any more advice?

Thank so much at this point.

Do you definitely have green ticks like this:

 settings_server_conect_connected.png

If so, can you see your server when you go to http://plex.tv/web/app ?

If not, then the XB1 won't see it either. Once we get this visible in other places, we can try the XB1 again.

Thanks!

Yes both are green. I can get the plex.tv urn just fine and the ticks are green there as well.

I can get to plex from my android phones, my android tablet, my Ipad , and my xbmc server.

The only device that I am having issues connecting to is the freaking Xbox One.

I am signed in, I am forwarding the correct ports, I can hit the plex server from the outside via WAN IP and adding /web to the end of the port number..

What else could there be that's stopping me from connecting.

Another thing to mention is that I can see the Plex Server on the Xbox's media player app but I cannot get the Plex App to see my server  which I am paying the $4.99 for.

Please continue to help me this is so frustrating.

What does your Xbox one tell you? I’m assuming something about unable to locate server?

Is there a ‘try again’ or such button? And if you click that, while its searching do you see a box in the top right hand corner you can use your d-pad to right arrow over to? Then it should show a server you can select.

S my xbox tells me that no servers are found.

There are the two options to retry or go home. If I rety nothing happens but the no servers screen again.

If I press the home button I do see a box on the top right of the screen but there is nothing in the field. When I use the d-pad to get over there I press the A button then a little popup menu opens but there is nothing inside to select. Then it refreshes the page and goes back to the No Servers Found screen.

Still no luck

So I figured it out. When you get the No Server’s Found error.
Press the start button on the Xbox controller then go to settings.

My email address and username for the plex server were listed wrong. I dont know how that happened but it did.
So I signed out and then the page to enter the pin came up and I went to the url provided and enter the pin. Once I did that my media collection came right up.

Thank you guys for all your help in this matter. You are all rock stars.
Without you I would have been lost.

Oh that is awesome! Glad it's fixed.

Please yell if you have any other issues.
