I have been trying to connect my server but the Plex Media Server will not give me an option to add it. It will only allow me to add files local to the drive. I have had this account for sometime but the computer I was running it on is out of date so I am trying to set it up on a newer PC. PC recognizes the server but Plex will not. None of the troubleshooting options seemed to work. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks
In order to complete the setup you need to open your Plex Media Server through its bundled web app
If you’re on the same machine… open http://127.0.0.1:32400/web in your browser (or click „Open Plex“ from the PMS system tray icon’s context menu. If you’re on a different machine inside your home network, use http://[PMS IP address]:32400/web instead. This will bring up a wizard/dialog where you can name your server and link it to your Plex account (as well as creating your first libraries).
Once you “claimed” your server (=linked it to your Plex Media Account), you’ll also be able to access it from other Plex apps or via http://app.plex.tv/desktop.
Unfortunately this only opens Plex. No wizard/dialog box appears. I have seen that in their support articles but can not find a way bring that up.
Re-reading your original post, I’m a bit confused.
You mentioned you’re only able to add files from local drives – you’ve also pointed out that the PC can see the server but Plex can’t?!
Would you mind explaining your current setup, what you see and what’s missing?
Did you create the new server as a new installation or did you migrate your original setup to the new machine?
