I am a total newbie here. I have been happily ripping my dvd collection and decided to get a better computer. All of my media files are on external hard drives so I have hooked up the new computer and for the life of me I cannot see how to add a server. I was invited under my brother who lives all the way in Canada and has a different server. None of the help articles are useful because I can’t get even an option to add a server. I had installed and uninstalled the Plex Media Server several times already but it just keeps shooting me over to my brother’s server. I am super frustrated and don’t just want to open a new account because I have already paid my $120 lifetime fee.
You need to access that new server through its local IP address in order to finish the setup.
If you’re working on the same machine, you can open http://127.0.0.1:32400/web in your browser. If the Plex Media Server is installed on a different machine inside your home network, open http://[PMS IP address]:32400/web instead.
This should bring up the setup dialog where you can name your server and link it to your Plex account. Once you linked the new server to your account, you can easily access it from other apps or the hosted version of Plex Web (https://app.plex.tv/desktop).
