So here’s the long version of my story:
I’ve been using Plex on and off over the last 7 years and really went all in about 3 years ago and have been slowly Ramping up my setup. Of course with continued upgrades and changes, comes new challenges and issues.
Finally Upgraded the server to a modern CPU/GPU combination capable of hardware transcoding and broke the 20 TB storage capacity mark on the server. I had my Music collection on my NAS originally that I network drive mapped onto my original server for my music library. With my newly minted Server storage capacity, I finally decided to move the Music library to the main drive.
I moved the Folder called Music to the root of the Server drive with all of my media. I have a separate folder for each of my libraries as well. I started scanning the Music Folder on Saturday when I transferred and recreated the Music Library and it took over 24 hours just to process 1500 items. Mind you, My Library is over 30K so I was concerned about what was happening. I left it running, hoping that Plex would figure itself out and complete the scan.
4 days later, scan hasnt moved over 1900 items. I checked the scan progress by sorting my library by folders and could actually tell where the files were getting hung up. I have a collection of billboard top 100 singles, organized by 5-year gaps and then each year within the folders. This was never an issue with all iterations of Plex server that I have ran over the last 5 years and was really curious as to what would be causing this issue. So I killed the media scan - cut the Billboard collection from the Library and started the scan again.
Scan completed in under 10 hours with everything found and cataloged properly. I figured, OK, maybe the filing system has changed in Plex so I shortened the name of the individual year folders to just the year as they were named the full name of the albums first. After that, I transferred the 50-year collection back to the Music Folder and started scanning again. I continued to check in with the scan and found that the scan hung again on 1987. So I killed the scan again. Cut 1987 and completed the scan. Everything else was found. Put back 1987 and Plex is just sitting there scanning and not adding any of the files. Adding screen shots below.
The other 4 Folders populated after removing the 1987 folder from the Library and now with it back in the mix, the files arent generating.
Any and all input would be greatly apreciated as I am sure this will be a learning experience for myself and anyone else that has similar issues.
