Server seemed to export .NFO and .JPG files at some point

Server Version#: 1.70.2.3845-31e96af6
Player Version#: [Not Applicable]

Just because it bothers my OCD, I have noticed that in several folders of mine at some point .NFO and .JPG files were added to the folder outside of the .MKV files I added as far as content. I never added those .NFO and .JPG files. I assume the server exported that information from the MKV file or added it in some other mechanism.

I am not really worried about disk space as they do not take up much and I have plenty. I just dislike that it is not the same across the board (OCD?).

How do I turn that on or off?

Plex doesn’t create or store files alongside your media. Sounds like it might be related to some kind of media processing/preparation workflow you’ve got running alongside Plex on the same machine.

Nope. I am far too lazy to do something like that. I assure you I did not do that.

That is a Plex client version.

Current PMS version is 1.32.8.7639. Displayed in Settings → Server_Name → General or in Authorized Devices.

As @tom80H states, those files were not created by Plex. It has no such capability.

Some renaming/reorganization tools create such files by default. Check the settings of any such tools you use.

And I am telling you I do not have any renaming/reorganization tools.

The fact remains that Plex doesn’t generate these either. The only explanations I can think of are:

  1. You’re using (or used) a third-party plugin/agent that can export Plex metadata to local files (e.g. [REL] Lambda (Local Assets-Metadata Double Agent) for Plex Metadata export)).
  2. Those files were there originally and you didn’t notice them.
  3. Some other external tool like tinyMediaManager generated them, which doesn’t seem to be the case for you.

If I may add here?

  1. Depending on the media source, sometimes NFO & JPG files are included.
(This is fairly common practice with torrents)

  2. MakeMKV does not create NFO/JPG files. It rips the BluRay/DVD directly and writes singular MKV files

  3. Sonarr / Radarr / etc, because they searched for media by name, also know the exact naming,
    – They can rename the incoming content to be in Plex naming format
    – They can place the media where it needs to be after “import” is complete.

  4. Confirming, Plex does not GENERATE NFO files. It never has.
    – There might have been Python “Plug-ins” which provided this but never Plex Media Server itself.
    – Further, NFO usage is limited to specifying the ttxxxxxxx info for the file.
    – This has since been superseded by the {tmdb-xxxxx} naming option. (tmdb, imdb, or tvdb as appropriate) for greater clarity

All my files have been ripped from original Blu-Ray/DVDs, so no NFO or JPGs were created at the time. I use no torrents. ALF has it. Taxi does not.

Looks like I have Lambda in there. Not sure how that works or how it got there.
