Question about NFO files (Mac-Server) and Soon to be a Rasperry Pi Server

Had a question about OTHER MOVIES. I am adding home movies and wanted to either create a NFO file or code them with plex (Last Resort). If I could create an NFO file that way I can move the directory from one server to another without retyping in plex every time.

I created a Home Movies Folder placed several directories in it with the name of the mp4 file the same as the folder. I then created a NFO file using the key info:

Title

Original Title

Year

Name

Plot

Director

Tag

If this can be done can someone point me in the right direction? I searched the forums and didn’t find anything but it might be the way I am trying to word it for the search. And then if a NFO file can be used how do I add it to the database.

Or, if non of that works can I save the data to an exported file from mac then re-import it on linux with something of the same folder structure.

Also where does the database saved at so maybe I can goto /Users/macbook-pro/Library/Application Support/. ???

And if I can find the file for it can I edit it in ascii editor?

.nfo files are unfortunately not supported in Plex. Yet.

The Metadata agent XBMCnfoMoviesImporter works with Plex and supports nfo files. You can find it on Github at GitHub - gboudreau/XBMCnfoMoviesImporter.bundle. Note though that official nfo support was apparently announced last year as coming, but it is unclear when.

Also note that the above legacy agent is no longer supported by plex

Still targeted for beta by end of 2025.
