Server settings unavailable

Thanks. There was no need to restart the PC although.
How stupid. Only the two omitted Backslashes caused the problem.

I changed the path in Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Plex, Inc.\Plex Media Server and Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Plex, Inc.\Plex Media Server to be sure.

Thanks again. Now I am going to try to fix the wrong metadata.

I have the same issue, I’m fed up with the fact that you can’t seem to get hold of a human being, it’s as if they font want to talk to you.

I tried the plex suggested method of editing the registry and didn’t work. The items in the registry weren’t repopulated. So I downloaded the latest server and reinstalled it and I didn’t lose any of my data and it fixed the problem and the revised items were in the registry.

got the Server settings are unavailable Error Message, too. Also no new things appear in my webapp libraries anymore, although the log-files say, it found change and scanned it.

I guess software is broken… the stupid babbling about “plex is picky how filenames are formed” cannot be the problem on the users side. I can see stuff and play it, which looks very much the same like things it is not showing anymore. I had never problems before with that. The log is not mentioning anything about why it does not want to show it. If there is some problem with malformed filenames babble about this in the logfile, if its stumbling over that, don’t let “forum moderators” with no clue guess about such in the forum.

the “Server Setting are unavailable” Problem is also something due a software glitch. The linked side here by forum moderator is not helping at all, hence the error message "server settings are unavailable) is there not mentioned - I am not locked out, it crashes after a timeout into this errorMessage. And on the linked Site are Preferences explained which are not existing (PlexOnlineHome??). Some hint about why (reason and purpose) one should delete the preferences key/value-pairs, which look are totally fine and correct from first glance would be a great help not to do unnecessary stupid things which totally waste the time of the users.

I am starting now looking for another solution. If you got some quality or developers with quality back, I maybe come around again.

Same issue here. I also don’t have access to match any new media. I’m a relatively new user and this was my first update. I REALLY hope this isnt the status quo for updates…

I also got this issue recently, so I reinstalled Plex and everything seemed fine afterwards, but after a restart I got the same thing all over again. I’m using the official Docker container if that helps. This is a bug that should be fixed ASAP.

Same issue here. I can play music and movies, but can’t access any server settings. I’m on a Synology NAS, which has been AWFUL with Plex. I absolutely dread updating Plex because it has to be done manually and it ALWAYS breaks everything, meaning I spend an hour trying to fix it. Now I can’t access my server settings… fantastic.

Plex is quickly becoming the iTunes of media servers. Bloated, non-intuitive, and buggy as hell.

Same thing just happened to me when I switched everything to a new laptop. I just purchased a tuner and antenna for live TV and I can’t even use it. It’s ridiculous they have not said or done anything. Is there any fix???

Had the same issue that I couldn’t load any metadata nor access my server settings. Had My VPN set up to ignore plex… taking it out of the whitelist fixed it! Thanks a lot!

So I was prompted to change my password. Did so, logged back in & now my server settings are inaccessible and remote access is the same. I can see my content locally in network. Lots of stuffing around reinstalling etc… then it says my server hadn’t been claimed, but that I could claim it… so I did. Still nothing is working. Followed through the troubleshoot steps many times. No remote access, nothing. Lifetime plex pass should come with some sort of communication. All this becasue I changed my password, nothing else.

Howdy y’all I’m getting this error today … have been running Plex for around 5 years and never had this happen.

I’m on an iMac, running Big Sur, Plex Web Version 4.47.3, Server Version (don’t know since I can’t access server general settings – but I usually keep up to date some I’m sure it’s the most current version)

I tried:

and that just made things worse…so I replaced the file and restarted and I’m back to square one.

The server is running as I can watch on my Mac and Apple TV’s … I’ve signed out of all devices including my Mac where the server resides.

The only thing that I did differently last night is when I watched Plex on my Apple TV the first screen I got was “a new server is available would you like to install?” … usually I answer yes but last night I didn’t want to wait so I chose “install later tonight” — I’ve never done this before and it’s the only thing I can think of…

Any thoughts on what I can do ?

I’m thinking I could

  1. roll back using time machine to yesterday

  2. unisintall and then reinstall Plex

???

Thanks in advance,
Kato

Ok so I feel dumb …

I downloaded the latest version of the Plex installer and reinstalled and presto … all good.

The ‘Old’ link was still there and still behaved the same way.

I just deleted it.

Tried the “Why am I locked out of Server Settings and how do I get in?” troubleshooting because I was unable to access my server settings but was able to access my media library, but now I can’t access my media or my settings to claim my library. What do I do now?

When I click on “Claim it Now”, it takes me to this window.

How do I claim my libraries so I can use them now?

So tried different things, and finally decided to delete my McAfee Security Suite, and now able to access my server settings. Something in McAfee might have been causing issues.

I have been using Plex for 5 years, was a plex premium member for the first 4 of those, but has to make some changes due to covid.

This also happened to me today, but i didn’t update any server settings, so a little confused why this started to happen.

I have the Synology DS920+ NAS and it looks like it updated to version 1.18.5.2309-f5213a238 automatically.

I don’t know how to roll back to an older version on the DSM NAS operating system.

Anyone here using the same setup that could offer help?

I am in the same poisition as this, I click “CLAIM IT NOW” and it still takes me to the unavailable settings page for my media server with no option to claim it etc.

More assistance needed!!!

This is a multiplatform issue - Other users above having this issue on Windows, I am running the server on Ubuntu. I have the issue on the server itself as well as accessing it from other devices on the network.

My server is also not downloading the metadata to match new media which I am assuming is related. I had some option flash up saying it needed to update the way it searches for it, I clicked yes but it didn’t appear to work, again I assume this is because the server settings are not available.

Also, noted I have an “!” next to remote access as per the images in djraysamora’s post above, I confirmed the plex port is forwarded, are there other ports that need forwarding?

I’m having the exact same issues after using Plex for basically as long as it has been out. Plex will work fine for a while, metadata will download and I can access server settings, then all of a sudden I will notice metadata no longer downloading and when I try to access the settings for the server, it fails with the “Server settings are unavailable”.

Remote access still works just fine.

The last time this happened, I noticed there was an update available and I applied it, and all was resolved immediately. I figured Plex pushed a quick update to fix the bugs, but then just now after weeks it’s broken again.

After following the instructions in the “Why am I locked out …” help page in Plex Support, when you restart the PMS and Plex, and log into the local account (127.0.0.1:32400), don’t forget to pay attention to the ! by your server name and “Claim” your server. The caution will tell you that your server is “unclaimed”.

DANG! :disappointed_relieved:  :confounded:Server settings are unavailable” still occurs.

Go to remote settings or click General settings again. When you see a note that you need to sign in to claim the server, do it.

Has anyone got this resolved yet?
