plex server settings are unavailable 2018

Worked for me if your plex server settings are unavailable try re-downloading the Plex server
https://www.plex.tv/downloads/#plex-media-server

yea that doesn’t work been dealing with this for some time. Have to run Application as Administrator, so when server reboots plex wont work right till you login to server, run as Admin, then back up again.
Need solution been going on for the last 6-8 update releases.

Same problem here - PLEX has been lagging seriously of late and can’t get server settings to come up at all. Tried deleting the services bundle file as others have mentioned in past forums, but to no avail either - damn frustrating to say the least!

The MOST annoying thing about this is over the VAST number of questions in these forums on this very issue, there isn’t one single answer or remedy from PLEX support stating how to overcome or fix this! Guys…stop adding new and wonderful apps and elements to PLEX, just for a moment, and fix some of the crucial bugs that exist!!

I have this issue now too. Will see about opening a support case. Am a PlexPass subscriber for a long time but never needed official support before. Will see…

Plex v1.12.2.4929-29f6d1796
Synology NAS (DSMv6/Linux 3.10.102 (#15284 SMP Sat May 19 04:16:44 CST 2018)

So… I decided to reboot my NAS again and afterwards it lets me get to the server settings. Go figure. I had done that last weekend when I first noticed the problem. I turned on ā€œPartial scan on change detectionā€ and also to run the scanner tasks at a lower priority. Will see how the system reacts.

I was having an issue where I couldn’t access the server settings page and couldn’t query new metadata. I remembered when I installed the server (trying to fix a database issue) I ran the installer as an administrator. Literally, right-clicking the installer and running as administrator – in order to avoid issues now I have to launch Plex as an admin…PITA but it works. Eventually it will bother me enough where I’ll reinstall it (the right way, without elevated rights) and hopefully that fixes the issue moving forward.

I finally was able to revert to Version 1.13.2.5142 and all my problem are gone.
With the latest Version 1.13.4.5271 (July 18, 2018) I was unable to go in servedr settings and unable to play anything on the web player. Plex has a serious issue with its last version… :frowning:

Applies only to Windows:
if you moved your Plex data folder to the root folder of a different drive letter:
Make sure that you write it as e.g. E:\ (including the backslash \ at the end!)
under Settings - Server - General - ā€˜Show Advanced’ - ā€œThe path where local application data is storedā€

OK so how are you supposed to do that if you cant access the Settings page in the first place.

This issue seems to have occured since upgrade to version 5271 on the 20th of this month for me.

I have my Plex data folder in a different drive location as you mention but wont be able to change the setting as the Plex Server settings are unavailable. so how do I work around this and resolve?

Thank you I will give that a try, appreciated.

Seriously, it’s that simple ?

Editing the registry with Plex shut down first worked perfectly, thank you!

Thank you so much! It was driving me nuts for weeks!

Adding the trailing slash to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Plex, Inc\Plex Media Server\LocalAppDataPath fixed the ā€œServer settings are unavailableā€ problem for me too!

A gentleman and a scholar, thanks for the tip!

I don’t know if anyone else ran into this, but I am running plex on win7 in a VM (don’t ask), and when I went to edit my registry there was no entry for LocalAppDataPath. I had to create a new one with the string value C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\

Worked like a charm.
