Server Version#: 1.40.4.8679
Player Version#: 4.135.2 (web) and latest on LG TV
Setup: Plex docker container on a Ubuntu Headless VM. VM has 8GB of RAM and 4x Cores. Media content is stored on NAS Storage.
This setup has been fine for several years but since around 2 days ago (6th of August) I have noticed it has significantly slowed down in performance - TV shows are taking 30-60 seconds to start if they load at all, on the LG TV specifically it’s completely timed out on occasion or stopped playback to buffer.
I first noticed the issue after updating the app on the LG TV however, it still happens on the web so I think it’s something server side. All playback is on the LAN.
My troubleshooting so far:
- I increased the VM from 4GB of RAM to 8GB, no improvement.
- I was on a previous version of the Server so I have redeployed the docker image which pulled down the latest version - no change.
- I have tried copying videos from the NAS SMB Share directly to my computer, it’s averaging 20Mbps which should be sufficient.
- Reviewed the VM metrics in Proxmox and the Plex metrics in Plex. I’m seeing less than 20% CPU and RAM being used whilst attempting to stream. Minimal network traffic too.
- It doesn’t seem linked to whether subtitles are on or off however, if I get it playing when subtitles are off, turning subtitles on leads to a very tense moment whilst we hope the service can recover.
I tried to review the logs but it seems to have downloaded 109 log files! I am hoping someone at Plex has a tool which can parse them better to help me identify the issue.
If I can’t resolve it, my next step will be to create a new VM and container but I’d prefer to avoid it if possible.
Any insights would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Edit: SOLVED - It seems I had too many containers on one VM and one of them was hogging RAM. After I shut down 4 containers everything sprang back to life.
