My media server stopped running and won’t start again on Windows 11. I get:
Plex Media Server.exe - System Error. The code execution cannot proceed because libcurl.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this this problem (and then same message with opencv_core455.dll, opencv_imgcodecs455.dll, opencv_imgproc455.dll). I have plex pass and have auto update turned on, which usually works well. Not this time, I guess.
I tried to force a “repair” by downloading the newest server install package, but it won’t install because it says Plex Media Server is already installed. If I try to use the Windows add/remove programs function, it warns me that the program and all related information will be deleted, I don’t want to lose all my settings… any suggestions?
Uninstalling Plex Media Server only removes the application and none of the content in%localappdata% or any of your settings. No media is touched. The server DB is stored in the %localappdata% location or whatever custom path you’ve set, so again not touched. If you are very concerned about your server settings you can easily create a targeted registry backup on just your PMS. We have the registry location listed in this support article that also has a link to Window’s support article for how to backup your registry.
All to say, uninstalling is safe to do on Windows.
Anyone else seeing the error message could you take a screenshot of what/where you’re seeing it? Plex Media Server logs can be found here: %LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex Media Server\Logs. Could you zip the entirety of that directory and share it here or DM me, please?
