After changing the password today I have no access to my servers. I’m not comfortable with deeper computer handling and this far I haven’t been able to do anything that works. I have tried deleting three rows in the registry as written in the papers. I have uninstalled both server and plex player, and installed again without any luck to get contact with the servers. I have not been able to work out how the claiming works. At the moment the servers aren’t listed at all and I also can’t access the newly installed ones. I need help but I specifically need step by step instructions instead of just a mentioning about that the server needs claiming. Thank you very much for any help.
There shouldn’t be a need to uninstall or delete registry records. After changing your password and opting to sign-out all devices, your PMS has been signed out too (it’s no longer linked to your Plex account).
There’s multiple ways to reclaim your server. Personally, I consider this to be the easiest:
open the bundled web app of your server locally (=from the same machine or within the same subnet) — if you’re on the same machine, this can be done opening http://127.0.0.1:32400/web in your browser
Navigate to Settings > [Server Name] > General
Click the Claim button at the center of the settings page
Once you reclaimed your server, the libraries should be visible from all clients signed into your account (or those of friends with whom you had previously shared them).
I had already edited the registry and reinstalled both the server and client on my Windows 11 PC, still no local server. Then I went into Appdata/Local/Plex Media Server and clicked on “Setup Plex” at the bottom. Boom, I’m in.
Again… no need for that (while it’s kind of a shortcut to access the bundled web app, getting there seems more complicated than simply browsing to the bundled web app) - deleting registry keys might be required if you locked yourself out of your server, not to perform a simple reclaim.
If your method had worked for me, I wouldn’t have had to keep looking for a solution. The Plex web didn’t recognize my server. I was simply stating what did work for me.
Assuming you didn’t just upgrade from an ancient server version with an under-powered machine and huge library, the upgrade/startup maintenance shouldn’t take days. Your server logs should contain some pointers if something’s wrong.
Thanks for responding! I don’t know if this is enough, but it repeats these same lines every 5 minutes. If this was the wrong log (Plex Media Server) let me know. Thanks again!
