I have a plex media server set up on the main pc which is directly connected to the modem and my NAS for the best speeds. However i am now getting a lot more people using the media and have added a second pc running of wifi also with the media server. If i login to the new pc and configure the same libraries will this decrease the load of the main pc and in turn have less shows buffering or will they simply have just two server options to choose from?

I have a similar setup as you. I give family and close friends access to say both computers and they can choose which server to run or have the option to switch if there’s an issue with one of them. Of course the PC directly connected to your network would run best overall. I give the rest of my friends access to the pc that’s on WiFi. If you’ve never done multiple servers before, ensure the PC that’s on WiFi (2nd PLEX Server) is on your main network as your NAS, setup a static IP on the WiFi PC and port forwarding using a 2nd instance.
The fact that the second server is connected through WiFi not sure if that going to help…
What you may need to look at is the bandwidth your remote users are using, that is what is your upload speed. is it maxed out so things buffer?
I use more then one server, I place users on only one server depending on their devices to minimize the transcodes that would take place…
Are you able to select which server individual devices utilise? I’ve set up all the necessary ip address and port forwarding settings.
Most of my shows are downloaded as 1080p bluray and more often than not, with multiple users at the same time. I ideally want to be able to have max 3/4 users simultaneously accessing 1080p, but I know that’s completely dependent on both my pc and their bandwidth
Answer your first question… It doesn’t work like that very easily…
If a user get a new device and uses it, it works… I add the user to a server and let them use whatever device they want, hopefully only one or two at a time… I have to contact them to set the quality to original on their UI’s when ever possible to minimize transcodeing… ( I don’t understand why Plex doesn’t use original as it default and then down convert when needed. I have one user after hand holding them through the Roku screens still can’t get it set to original since he is always transcodeing to 720p)
I also have mostly 1080p movies and shows, I avoid the HD 4k etc videos since none of my users can play them currently.
