Setting up a replacement Plex server after the death of the computer

Hello everyone.
I’ve been happily running and sharing Plex for the last two or so years. I had the server running on an old box that I installed Ubuntu 16.04 on with Plex. All the media files are found on a local NAS.

Yesterday, the linux box died, it smelled of anything but honey, and so I figured I’d replace it with a NAS suited for Plex. The choice fell on the Synology 920+, which I’m expecting to arrive at my doorstep at any moment now. A few barracuda drives will make up for local storage.

Question is:
Can I just install the latest version of Plex onto this NAS, and sign in with my existing username, and set up the exact same library name?

The reason why I ask is that I use it mainly to share videos and photos of my family with … more distant family, they all seem to be managed by plex, so no loss there, but I’d hate for them to have to attach to a different server address.

I am assuming that if I can just set up the exact same server name, the content itself can be recreated using the same folder structure that I have on my existing NAS.

I ask, because a friend of mine changed plex servers, and ended up with a new server name, which is what I’m trying to avoid.

You can setup a new server with the same name, but won’t be “the same” server.

But, if you have a backup copy of your plex database and preferences xml, you can essentially recreate the old server on the new nas, which should be transparent to your users.
