Setting Up Plex for my whole house

Hi guys, it’s my first time here. I just migrated to Plex. I have a total of Bluray Quality Movie (30-70gb per movie), 80Terabyte mix of portable and external harddrive. I migrated to Plex as I’m tired of plugging and unplugging one harddrive to another.

So I’m planning to make it available for the whole house. I have nvidia shield, roku, google chromecast connected to all TV available in my house.

I’m planning to buy Synology DS918+ to store all my media and works as the server as well.

My questions are:

  1. Am I heading the right way with this setup?
  2. Can Synology or other NAS play big bluray file smoothly? or a windows pc/nvidia shield is a better option?
  3. Does Plex need fast internet connection for watching in the same wifi network?
  4. What happen when the internet is down (no connection)?
  5. I also have Home Theater, is it better to have NAS/Server located in my gaming area where I have my PC for easy access or is it better to have Server located in the most frequent are for watching movies (either family room/home theater)?
  6. Is it better to run on Plex native app or Kodi Plex?
  7. If using min 4 bay nas, which Raid to use if I use it for media consumption

Thank you so much

Thank you for your input.

With NAS Raid (planning a minimum of 4x8tb), which Raid is preferred for Plex?

That’s the linux system in Synology right? and if all my pc at home are using Windows, any issue with that?

But with EXT4, do we still choose Raid 0,1,6, or 10?

Oh right Synology Hybrid RAID is a special raid from Synology. Sorry about that, it’s my lack of knowledge in the Nas system. Thank you
