Setup issue

Not sure I can follow…
You established a SSH tunnel first?

If the command above is giving you trouble try this instead:

  1. ssh -l <username> -L 8888:127.0.0.1:32400 <VPS IP>
where <username> is your SSH account on the VPS and <VPS IP> is the public IP of the remote server.
  2. sign in with the SSH account’s password
  3. on your local machine, open http://127.0.0.1:8888/web (don’t forget the /web)

This way the request will appear to the VPS Plex as if it’s triggered locally and should bring up the setup dialog.

I just finished setting it up. Everything looks like it works now. What is the best directory for me to put the shows on?

As long as you give the service account plex proper permissions you should be good to pick one you like.

Few exceptions:

  • preferably don’t put them in /media/
  • don’t put them in the server data directory

Edit:
Linux Tips are your friend when it comes to permissions / mounting / …

Alright thank you.

If I may augment here?

I keep my directory structure simple.

The server sees:

/nas/media/
  movies1/ - general movies
  movies2/ - more mature movies
animated/ - just as it says. animated movies
  tv1/ - Popular , most often watched / current
tv2/ - Popular, less often watched
tv3/ - Classics, seldom watched unless nothing appealing
tv4 - Speciality programs (I like cooking shows)
music/ - just what it says
  seasonal - Seasonal specials
uhd/ - All my ripped BluRay 2160p movies

I can now create library sections and name them appropriate to their structure but with more flair
