Server Version#: 1.22.3.4523
Player Version#:1.3.1.2347-2bc469d3
Plex HTPC.log (1.1 MB)

several bugs ive found in the latest 1.3.1

  1. when the player gives an error that i cant play file or it has been on pause to long I am able to start playing something new, but the error remains. I do hear the episode audio playing. Only solution is to quit htpc and try again.
  2. I want to continue watching something. I start but nothing happens. colored but blank screen. I cant escape back to menu. I need to quit the application in task manager and try again. Ive included my log.

Hi @spawn666 thanks for opening a new issue.

Here’s the paused for too long

May 29, 2021 22:40:04.402 [0x1139b45c0] ERROR - [Web] 04/06/2021 22:40:04:388 [spawn666:3uqpwvbpi24vyp9hyzd86txh] ERROR Playback error occurred. Reason: ServerTerminatedStream, Server terminated stream: Playback has been paused for too long.
May 29, 2021 22:40:04.402 [0x1139b45c0] ERROR - [Web] 04/06/2021 22:40:04:392 [spawn666:3uqpwvbpi24vyp9hyzd86txh] WARN [PlaybackSessionController] could not retry, reporting error

Then a moment later, we bit ourself:

May 29, 2021 19:29:47.367 [0x1139b45c0] ERROR - [Web] 04/06/2021 19:29:47:366 [spawn666:3uqpwvbpi24vyp9hyzd86txh] WARN _onOnPlayPauseInvokedChanged is not defined for @autoCallback property: onPlayPauseInvoked

The “rejected after unmount” errors are distracting but innocent.

Does 2) only happen after 1)?

Not sure. I’ll write down findings after time. The continuing watching is started from the dock though, not an unpause situation.

Thanks @spawn666. We’ll investigate how the app is handling the server terminating playback. I haven’t had luck reproducing problems resuming playback from the home Continue Watching hub; will keep an eye/ear peeled though.

I’ll will try some scenarios to see if I can reproduce the problems this month. I’ll relay if I find a pattern, thanks for looking into it.

I can reproduce this problem.

Plex HTPC app shows “Playback Error, Playback has been paused for too long. OK” On my mac. the Ok is gray. I go to the plex iOS app to contineu watching the episode.
I start it,
Error stays in screen but the episode does start to play, you can hear the audio.
Multiple menu button presses on my remote control does allow me to return back to the main menu.

Another log file for analysis maybe. This crash happens sometimes after an episode ends. It does not return to any menu and the screen stays black. remote and keyboard command also do not work to get out of this. I have the quit the app in the activity monitor.

Thanks @spawn666. I’m doing what I can to get the right folks engaged. :crossed_fingers:

Thanks Matt. I happens about 3 times a day, so it’s not a one time thing.

Hi @spawn666, quick question. I noticed you mentioned the iOS app. Are you only reproducing this behaviour when using the iOS app to control the HTPC app?

No, I switch it around. I mostly use the apple remote to navigate around the menu’s.

Thanks for the report. I believe I’ve pinned down the steps to reproduce:

  • Start playback via any means and leave player paused until server terminates playback
  • Using Plex Companion start playback of another video without first dismissing the error message shown

Is that correct? If so, we should have a fix in the next release.

Yup that’s one of the problems. If I start something new when plex is on screensaver (so I don’t see he error yet) then I start cia the phone app or server web interface an episode starts in the background. It starts but the error blocks the screen. Then I have to stop the playback, find the remote, try to get out of the error by pressing menu multiple times till infer back to the main menu. Then I can start the new thing.

The other problem is that sometimes, at the end of an episode the screen goes black and plex get stuck, no way to exit out to anything. I have to quit the app by ending it in task manager.
