is this feature not this? albeit missing a couple options.
what it also needs is the ability to share a clip of something, specifying a start and end.
and perhaps let you keep those clips shared in a playlist yourself so you can find them later.

not really, that feature requires a plex account. What people want is the ability to share links without a plex account.
i.e. I have a video on my server that I want my parents to watch. they arenāt going to create a plex account. I just want to send them an email with a link that loads the plex web player with just access to that video. It should be the equivalent of sharing a link on youtube.
honestly, this is more valuable (and would probably be used more often) than the co-watching feature (and heck perhaps could even be used in combination with the co-watching feature!).
The biggest reason for it is that it enables users who donāt have plex accounts, who have never been exposed to plex to now be exposed to it.
Honestly, from a business perspective it seems like a slam dunk.

Throwing another +1 for this feature.
Would be great to be able to do a āshare with userā to enable direct access, regardless if they have access to the entire library or even an account on your server. An expiration date would be icing.
Instead of having to upload videos to YouTube, or other services, to share with family, they could watch directly off of my Plex server.

Would also like to share specific files via public-available links, without having to make someone create a plex account just for that one particular video file or picture. Not getting why this wasnt implemented by now.

Make it PlexPass only, so they got your Billing info and can check and forward Copyright claims.
Or donāt use completely random links e.g. https://app.plex.tv/share/[userid]/[Random]/
Law enforcment could just ask for the personal details for [userid] and plex wouldnāt even have to do much except a user lookup. (Maybe they should check if law enforcment is allowed by a judge or just abusing their status.)
tl;dr: dropbox and nextcloud can do it, why not plex?
Add to that, if the link expires by default and you can control when it expires manually, you would always have control. If I share with a friend, and heās a dick and sends the link to 20 others, I would quickly be able to see a lot of streams of that movie or show episode, and could just cancel the link. I probably wouldnāt share stuff with that friend anymore either, so there isnāt a great incentive to be a dick about shared links.
The link should definitely be random, though. Otherwise anyone could start guessing at the structure of your library and THEN youād have a problem of random people streaming from your server.
OMG since 2013 and this is still not a feature? NEED this for music. Why canāt we get something like spotify so we can share music on discord. We donāt need more low quality free streaming options jammed into our libraries.

We want it so we can share a link to anyone. Not just plex users in our list. I want to be able to share a video with anyone and not necessarily have to add a whole bunch of people to my list of shares.

Itās frustrating, because in the early days it felt like things were moving faster. New features being released, new ones requested, those moving up in popularity, and then being worked on and released.
To me, itās about when the forums changed from the old platform to this current one that I noticed that feature suggestions seemed have gotten ignored, in favour of Plex pursing only things theyāve put on the roadmap.
I think this would be a great feature. Perhaps a Plex Pass member can share a single video, picture folder, song, album, etc.
A random generated link, with a view count, and maybe some token that has to be entered to initiate the video playback. Even a one-time use link would be great to me. If they screw it up and close it, I just generate another one.
unfortunately open public sharing (ie to users without plex accounts that you have explicitly shared to), with or without expiration dates, doesnāt seem likely.
for one that would open up plex to general file distribution, which comes with a much higher risk of associated piracy use.
two, there are intentional existing limits to the number of shared users/connections that open sharing could easily cause to be exceeded.
and finally, even if you only gave a shared url or whatever to certain people, it can easily get shared outside of your knowledge, and besides that you would have no control over random people on the internet trying to attack plex servers to get open shared content.
I think some of those problems could be mitigated by limiting active URLs to 4 or 6 at a time, while also limiting the amount of connections per URL to one at a time. If you need more, thatās what Plex accounts are for.
I imagine that the main use case for these temporary URLs is to share a movie with a family member or friend after you had a conversation about it and realized they had never seen it.
Anyone out there wanting to share 30 different movies at a time to multiple simultaneous viewers is probably trying to do something illegal like sell access or something.
I would love for this feature to be added.
