When I share an item like a single movie with someone, they can see it appear when they login but they cannot click it or interact with it. The only way to share anything is to share an entire library like ‘TV shows’ or ‘Movies’ than it works every time… however if you wanted to only share 1 season or 1 tv show than it doesn’t work.

1/ Select item to share
2/ Enter email address of friend.
3/ They get a link that immediately allows them access to that file/show on your server… no account creation, login, etc… just access!
Is this user someone you already share your server with? If so, check their restrictions. Sharing a single item does not get around those restriction rules.
This was shared with a friend, brand new user. The restrictions were all on default and none were prohibitive. The item would show up for him but it would be gray and not interactive.
If it shows up, it shouldn’t be gray. If it was a restriction, it wouldn’t appear at all. Can you get a screenshot form your friend? Something’s not making sense.
Yeah, I’ll get him to send a screen shot… The only way to share things consistently is to share a library by ticking the box. If I click 1 item or a season of a show, it shows that it’s there but no way of clicking play.
I’ve worked out the issue. It turns out that when you first send an invite to share something with someone, once they accept the invite it takes a few moments for the server and plex app to setup. Once the person in your list no longer shows as ‘pending’ then they just need to spam the refresh button until they see a tab appear named ’ SHARED '. Afterward it’s easy to just share individual items or entire seasons. Hope this helps.
The sharing should work as soon as they click accept. If the “shared” folder doesn’t appear for them, or the invite still shows as pending for you, then it’s the browser still caching the old info and not updating. Instead of massing F5, try a forced refresh. Ctrl + F5.
