I signed up for the plex pass a few months back and have finally gotten my plex server up and running. I am now trying to share out some videos with my family. I have added one person but when they log into the app on their phone they don’t see any of the videos. I am trying to find out how I share this so they can see the videos?

  1. You don’t need a PlexPass to share your libraries. Just throwing that out there jic you don’t know.

Important test: Are you able to access your Plex server when outside of your own home network?

(Of course this test means nothing if you are carrying your Plex server with you e.g. on a laptop)

I myself am able to access all my content when inside my house and outside my house (on my WiFi and while on 4G cell service). My friend is unable to access it outside the house. We haven’t tried from within the house.

How did you go about this?
Did you share your own Plex credentials with this person?

No. I added them as a friend from the app on my phone.

I’m not sure what the iOS app does, but I don’t see any ‘friend’ shares on your server.
Did your friend confirm the invitation?

Correct me if I’m wrong but I thought the ability to add users to your shares was removed on the mobile apps and the only way to add(invite) friends was thru PlexWeb interface. @OttoKerner, can you confirm this?

So I think I figured it out.

I added the “friend” from the iPhone app but it didn’t add them to any of the libraries. I had to go back on my computer and add them from there. I probably should have shared each library from the phone but easier on the computer.
